catalytic converters - Maengelito - 12-12-2007 well, there wasnt much activity aside from a few threads in the lounge and i was cleaning up around jenn's (ie: my garage) so i figured i'd snap some pics. the california emissions 99-00 miatas are known for crappy exhaust manifolds because it's got a pre-cat or 2nd cat converter. that piece was replaced on my old silver miata and it was laying around jenn's, so i decided to do an abortion on it, but since one end has a large opening, it came out relatively easily. i had no idea that cat converters were this dense and i can see why a plugged cat is so restrictive. well i thought it was interesting seeing as how i've never seen one, so hopefully this was educational for you as well. ![]() ![]()
- Andy - 12-12-2007 Take that shit to a metal recycle place. The joint in manassas gave me 125 bucks for mine. - Maengelito - 12-12-2007 the metal recycling place here in cville doesnt take cat converters. hook me up with the info on this place in manassas - WRXtranceformed - 12-12-2007 Wow you're lucky, I've heard horror stories about people trying to remove the cats from their stock exhaust. IIRC it's not great to be breathing or handling it when you're breaking it up with a crowbar like you have to in some cases. - Evan - 12-12-2007 yeah, i hope you wore a mask. that stuff isnt good for the lungs. - Andy - 12-12-2007 google cat recyclers and see if anything comes up. According to Jerry's recycling, VA recyclers can't take cats anymore due to concerns from thefts. - Maengelito - 12-12-2007 so its bad that i snorted all the stuff that came out of it? while i didnt wear a mask, it basically just slid right out when i tapped it from the top. very few particulates and small pieces that i wasnt about to kick up into the air. - HAULN-SS - 12-12-2007 Evan Wrote:yeah, i hope you wore a mask. that stuff isnt good for the lungs. I don't know what could be bad about catalyzin' the air you're breathin' - .RJ - 12-12-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Evan Wrote:yeah, i hope you wore a mask. that stuff isnt good for the lungs.
