F1 Showdown on Speed in a few minutes - G.Irish - 10-21-2007
The final F1 race of the season at Interlagos in Brazil is coming on Speed at 11:30 am EST. Three men enter, but one man will leave with the 2007 F1 Driver's Championship.
Lewis Hamilton leads Alonso by 4 points and Kimi Raikkonen trails by 7. Basically if Hamilton can beat Alonso or finish right behind him he'll win, unless he finishes 8th or lower and Kimi wins the race. Not too far fetched considering that Kimi's teammate (or anyone else for that matter) can go wreck Hamilton and open the door.
Massa is on pole, Hamilton is in 2nd, Alonso is 3rd, and Raikkonen is 4th. If Hamilton wins it will be the first time in Formula 1 histroy that a rookie won WDC. If Alonso wins it will be 3 in a row. If Kimi wins it, it will be his logn overdue first title.
There are a lot of story lines from this season, some of them too silly and convoluted to even think about. But it'll be the first time in awhile its truly down to the last race with 3 guys with a chance. Unfortunately the race will be dry so it may not live up to the billing but with everything on the line who knows what will happen.

Hamilton really blew it 2 weeks ago. Like they said, "rookies don't win Championships for a reason."

Yeah what a shame for Lewham. Had it not been for a transmission fault he would've taken it but on the other hand that mistake in China was what ultimately lost the title for him.
I must say though that I'm happy for Kimi. He's gotten robbed of the championship by mechanical faults at McLaren at least twice. Ironic that a mechanical hiccup sank Hamilton.
Let's see if we see Kimi actually look happy for once in his life :lol:

On Windtunnel they were just talking about how Mclaren announced they are protesting the championship and it will be going to court

Man I thought Kimi winning would be the least controversial end to the season but here we go with more drama. As much as I would have liked to see Hamilton win I don't want to see him take his first title in the courts. Not to mention the fact that it would be pretty unfair to rob Kimi in this manner. For them to revoke the title there would need to be incontrovertible evidence that the BMW's and Williams were purposefully illegal. The fact that they were let go suggests that it wasn't anything major.

I didn't get to watch it until last night (tivo'd), so I've been avoiding this thread and any place on the interweb that might have told me the outcome. After the wait, I'll have to say that the race did not disappoint.
I thought it was highly unlikely for Kimi to actually win the championship, but everything worked out perfectly for him. I saw reports this morning that Hamilton and Alonso have said it's not fair to take a championship away from Kimi at this point, so hopefully Mclaren doesn't follow through with their legal BS.

That and emonso didn't win. So I guess I can still look on the bright side. I need to sit down and watch the ITV feed just to hear the emotion in James Allen's voice at the end of the race.
