10 foot paint job - Andy - 10-19-2007 Hey, I'm kicking around the idea of painting my car. I don't want to spend more than 500 bucks to do it. Some of the Maaco stuff doesn't seem that bad for a track car. Any of you guys have any suggestions or knows a guy . . . - Evan - 10-19-2007 Alan got his racecar painted for $500 and it looks good, ill ask him where and I have an HVLP gun and a compressor....... - Andy - 10-19-2007 Evan Wrote:and I have an HVLP gun and a compressor....... You'd paint my car pink with a hammer and sickle. No thanks. Please ask Alan though. His car does look pretty sweet. - PDenbigh - 10-19-2007 Yeah, and share the results here please... - Evan - 10-19-2007 Andy Wrote:nah, red (as in state) with a silhouette of Reagan and an elephant hood ornament....Evan Wrote:and I have an HVLP gun and a compressor....... ![]() - WRXtranceformed - 10-19-2007 Just get us drunk and we'll paint it like we painted Maeng's Miata's hardtop  :Looool: - Maengelito - 10-19-2007 beware the wrath of mikey though. one "MM" of spray paint will kill all the trees in a 100 mile radius - Andy - 10-19-2007 This is my car this past weekend. It's pretty beat. It's much worse than I thought. ![]() ![]() - Scott - 10-19-2007 Andy Wrote:This is my car this past weekend. It's pretty beat. It's much worse than I thought. Your passenger door and fender look nice..... - .RJ - 10-19-2007 Andy, you want to give buffing it a shot? - navin - 10-19-2007 .RJ Wrote:Andy, you want to give buffing it a shot? Yah, wheres the thread with Evan's miata where he buffed it. Looked pretty damn good. Andy - you need to paint over the interior too, and clean up that left over tar residue ![]() - Evan - 10-19-2007 i think one of andy's fenders is mismatched color anyway. might as well repaint. - navin - 10-19-2007 I THINK they are all pink.. but i can barely remember seeing the car last weekend, and what i did 4 hours ago. - Andy - 10-19-2007 The front passenger fender and door were resprayed by a previous owner when a tractor trailer's tire separated and scratched the whole side. The front driver fender and headlight cover met VIR's tirewall. So far as I can tell, there's about 6 shades of red on the car. RJ, if you want to see how much magic you can work, be my guess. If anything else, it'll be a good excuse to drink beer in the daylight. - ViPER1313 - 10-19-2007 I think a good buff would do that car magic - I have seen cars with way worse paint look great after a good buff. It won't last long though..... A good rattle can job would be perfect  . - Steve85 - 10-19-2007 My bmw looked just like that, a few shades of red. We had it done at Maaco and here is an after shot. I had the clear coat done so it was a little more around 800 I think. It's a good way to go. It had 2 very minor oversprays and one tiny run. And yeah buffing is temporary lasts about 2 weeks after all the effort. - .RJ - 10-19-2007 Steve85 Wrote:And yeah buffing is temporary lasts about 2 weeks after all the effort. Evan's car still looks great 8 (?) months later. If you do it correctly it should last quite a long time as you'll remove the layer of oxidation from the surface of the paint. - Jeff - 10-19-2007 cut it down with compound, polish it, wax it...good for as long as you keep it that way. - HAULN-SS - 10-20-2007 Have you ever thought about just re-clearing it? Strip it of all wax and oils currently on it, and clear everything. it'll look pretty good, and last a lot longer than a buff. - Andy - 10-20-2007 Toyota's didn't have clear coats for red, white and black cars in the early nineties. The pink isn't oxidation, the paint isn't there anymore. |
