Pics from India - Apoc - 09-22-2007

I was in India for business for the last week and a half. We were pretty busy with actually doing work so I didn't get as much of a chance to go out and take pictures as I would have liked. Combine that with it being monsoon season you get what are admittedly not the greatest pictures. Either way, this is what I've got.

I've heard there are a few really beautiful parts of India, and a LOT of shitty ones. Can you confirm?

Great pics btw! This one is especially beautiful:

Most definitely. The economic divide is pretty large... far, far greater than in the US. In Bangalore, you'll have a 5 star hotel (like that pic) right next to people living in tin and cow shit shanty towns. A basic room in that hotel, called the Leela Palace, is like $450 a night. The average IT worker makes $10k/year and they're considered pretty well off.

Here's that same hotel in the background. You'll notice a dump only two blocks away on the left.

How much Immodium AD did you consume?

- .RJ - 09-22-2007

I cant imagine eating indian food for 10 days. My colon would be WRECKED.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-22-2007

Not to mention your entire body would smell like curry.

Ironically, I didn't really have any problems in India. I got an Rx for Cipro and took that in conjunction with Immodium only twice and that was for preventative measures. I didn't drink anything that wasn't bottled and didn't eat any fresh fruit so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. My system is far more messed up now that I'm back. Maybe I caught a bug late in India or I'm just adjusting the greasy American food but everything I've had for the last two days has messed me up somewhat.

I had Indian food twice a day every day I was there and didn't have 'curry' the way we know it once. What we know to be curry, with the yellow curry powder, is more of a British invention than it is Indian. Southern Indian cuisine does use leaves from the curry tree but it's really nothing like what you're thinking. That said, most of our meals were Northern Indian, which seems a lot more popluar among Indians.

Yeah, it's safe to say I learned way too much about Indian food.

i went to a traditional indian wedding last year and the food was some of the best i've ever eaten ever. me and a bunch of my work buddies went and we hit that open bar for a ton of drinks but none of us could really get a buzz because we were all so full from eating

If you want a really good time at an Indian restaurant you need a bottle of win per person and a good grasp of basic Hindi. Otherwise you are just another gora.

PS. I still hate you motherfucker for making it out to India before me.
