I need to know if you can spin the input shaft by hand with fifth gear engaged. I have the LSD in and everything buttoned up. I just need to verify that this is the design of the trans and not a screw up on my part.

Alright. someone humor me. Fifth gear can be spun by hand but now first gear won't engage nor will reverse. Have any of you guys heard any stories about people encountering difficulties with manual boxes? I've taken this motherf-cker apart three times now.I'm getting tired of this.

this could be your problem. Tongue

you should definitely be able to move through all the gears, and fairly easily. having never rebuilt a transmission myself, i can only figure that your problem lies within. It might be time to take it to a transmission shop.

The first time I rebuilt mine in the racecar I had to assemble it 4 or 5 times - I'd forget something, or put something in wrong.

Once again the number one reason why I don't fuck with gearboxes past clutch installs.

They're pretty easy once you figure it out Smile

I pulled mine apart more times than I'd like to admit to change diffs, gearing, etc.

I'm guessing surgeons feel the same way. :dunno:

- Andy - 09-19-2007

I'm stumped. I have no clue why 1st and reverse won't engage. I can only assume it's the reverse idler and/or reverse restrict pin is binding some place.

Can you spin the input shaft and then engage the gear?

It feels like binding. I can feel partial engagement but it doesn't lock/snap in. All the other gears feel good and positive.

no reason 5th should act any different than other gears... you failed; pull it apart again.

They will remain big black boxes to me until the day that ALL of my other projects are done and I have exhausted my brain thinking of other neat things to do.
