2 Championships Will be Decided Today - G.Irish - 09-16-2007

AMA Supersport and Superbike will be on today at 5 and 6 pm EST on Speed Channel.

In Supersport there's a three way battle for the title. Kawasaki's Roger Hayden leads the championship by 9 points over his teammate Jamie Hacking (3 time AMA champion) and Josh Hayes of Erion Honda trails by 11 points. For Hacking to win the title he has to win, lead the most laps, and hope Roger Hayden finishes 4th or worse. Erion Honda's Josh Hayes has to win the race, lead the mosts laps of the race, and have Roger Hayden finish 4th or worse. Hayes is doing his part thus far, by taking pole for the race.

In AMA Superbike Mat Mladin and Ben Spies (both of Yoshimura Suzuki) are in much the same situation, except its winner take all. Mat Mladin leads by 5 points but if Spies wins, takes the pole position, and leads the most laps he will take the championship.

There are definitely gonna be fireworks in these races, especially in Supersport where there at least 4 or 5 riders who can fight at the front for the win. I think the supersport race very well could the best race of the year.

Spies took superbike pole by three tenths. It certainly doesn't decide anything, but I'm sure it'll boost his confidence and help him build some momentum heading into the main event. I'll be in the Spies camp... I just don't like Mladin.

Also, Josh Hayes crashed in practice and reportedly hurt his heels/ankles.
