E30 SRS light - Steve85 - 09-06-2007

My 1990 325ix has had the SRS light on for some time. I replaced the harness years ago after a squirrel ate through it but never had the light cleared.

I went to a euro shop and it appears BMW doesn't want anyone else to be able to do this. The guy told me that Siemens makes it and will only sell to dealers.

Does anyone know any secret way to do it? Jump a couple pins or something of that nature to clear out the codes....

Nearest dealer is an hour away.

Thanks

Did you search on bimmerforums?

Yeah..there is a tool available to the aftermarket by Baum that you need to do some funky wiring and probing of the SRS Module harness to get it to work on the E30 chassis. Although I did not see a price "expensive" was mentioned and I am selling the car.

Otherwise, they cover the bulb with a different console cover.

There are 2 bulbs, a removable and a hard wired one.

Snap-on was selling a BMW SRS tool. Don't remember how much, and I think they've recently discontinued, but you might be able to find one around.

you cant pull the negative battery cable, step on the brake and then hook it all back up?

That will clear SRS codes??? Is that something that will clear all codes in everything? Seems odd stepping on the brake would effect airbag system codes.

I cover all the annoying lights in my E30 with black tape... especially the check engine one.

Sorry, I know this doesn't help

well, it'll drain any current left in any capacitors in the system if you step on the brake. if there's something actually wrong with the SRS system then, i dont know if it'll clear the code until you fix whatever's wrong.

Gotcha...

I read up on this a little more and my light blinks for a while then goes steady. According a guy on the Bimmer forums, it means there was an interruption in the system but it is functional. He got in an accident and bags deployed.

I fixed it for good though....SOLD!

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions everyone
