Where would I get a Knife restored? - Jeff - 09-04-2007 My grandfather gave me a Puma White Hunter model 6377 a few years ago. I never thought anything of it until I looked it up on the net today. A mint example is worth like $300!!! This one maybe 175-200. Anyway, I would like to get it re-sharpened (not that it needs it, its razor sharp) and have the blade polished back to a total mirror finish. It was made in early 1967 and he used it while hunting wild boar in Turkey. Anyone know where I might be able to go and get a pro to work on this for me? - Ryan T - 09-04-2007 There is an awesome shop in Sevierville, TN called Smokey Mountain Knife Works. I'm not sure if they take mail in or not for restoration, but they sell lots of kits to do it yourself and also have someone in-house that does it. I know it's a long way away, but any knife lover needs to go there. - CaptainHenreh - 09-05-2007 Go to the co-op and ask. Those guys should know. - ScottyB - 09-05-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Go to the co-op and ask. I took like a solid hour, some old socks, and a tin of Mother's metal polish and I got her looking like a 50's car bumper. I was even able to polish the brass rivets and the inlay in the stag handle. I'm going to work on it some more tonight, I'm trying to get the blade looking a bit better near the cutting edge. There are scuffs from sharpening and cutting all over the blades edge, they are shiny like chrome now, but you can still see the marks. This knife is made with "Genuine Pumaster Steel" the blade says...just call me "The Pumaster"... - ScottyB - 09-05-2007 TTIWWOP! - Jeff - 09-05-2007 Let me find my POS point and shoot...I'll get a few tomorrow - Maengelito - 09-08-2007 dont let chan anywhere near it |
