Project 94' SHO - ViPER1313 - 09-03-2007 Bought this car with the intent of making it track ready - still needs some work but is almost there. Done so far: Brake Overhaul (because the car didn't stop....at all): -New rear brake hard-lines (northern cars suck) -Replaced rear calipers -96-99' SHO Front brake upgrade (10.Something -> 11.6in) -New metallic-ceramic pads all around -Replaced all 4 brake rotors -180-degree thermostat & switched to straight water in cooling system -Spark plugs -Fuel filter -Rear sway-bar end-links -Patched rust hole in the floor (inspection mandate) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will get done: -Flush transmission fluid -Flush power steering fluid -Install front 2 aluminum subframe bushings (2 already installed) -Replace passenger side mirror with one from the 92' (broken) -Repair shift linkage (nylon washers destroyed in subframe collapse - can move 1-in left to right while car is in gear) -Replace temp sending unit for temperature gauge -Install summer tires So basically a couple more hours work and the thing should be golden. Cant wait for Summit  - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-03-2007 Hold on what was the comment? I dont ever see these on track, that mean it MUST be a shitty platform for track....lol I just had to throw that up... Dude the SHO is gonna be hawt shit! maybe a little sideways in turn 5-6? - Mike - 09-03-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Hold on what was the comment? I dont ever see these on track, that mean it MUST be a shitty platform for track....lol I just had to throw that up... you don't give this up, do you? yes, your car AND his car are shitty platforms for the track... they've been around a long time, people have tried them, and they no longer run them. that isn't to say you're not allowed to sway from the norm. if you want to run it, run it, who cares? fwiw, the guy that we have paddocked next to at summit the past couple events (white se-r) used to run a talon for YEARS. you know why he stopped? he grew tired of the headaches. talk to him about it next time... really nice guy. just quit with the "you guys don't know shit, watch me" attitude. we do know shit... we've being doing longer than you've been driving. - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-03-2007 Mike, wow your ignorance about other cars is amazing. The archer racing Talons and Eclipses DOMINATED until the SCCA changed rules and put them into the unlimited class against race-prepped ferraris, in which Archer Racing turned to Vipers (yes the same Archer Racing) Also the Southern California Speed Unlimited Class had a 1g win the whole series, Three times in a row againsst race-prepped ferraris, porsches, the whole shebang. Guess what our platform is? Galant VR-4, the succesful rally car before the evo platform was even invented. I am sorry, your POS fwd hatch with an econo engine is the SHITTIEST platform in my opinion of any car ever. The only reason its used because its a cheap platform where you can get parts for everywhere. Then I hear the whole its got independent double wish-bone and you got macpherson, well guess what? I do have double wishbone independent, one of the lowest CxA and drag coefficient of any production cars, a very potent engine (no need to explain), and awd. Sorry Mike, your a nice guy in person, but jesus christ shut the fuck up. I know all your gonna do is say stuff back along with everyone else who likes to do it, but goddamn I like you guys in person, but talk about a big e-cock. No wonder we have people who say they hate the forum and there are no more new members on forums, or they are very rare. ITs cause of shit like this. Get over yourself and the POS econobox that you think does shit. - Maengelito - 09-03-2007 wow, lets everyone overreact - .RJ - 09-03-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Mike, wow your ignorance about other cars is amazing The guy he's talking about is the same guy I said you should go talk to about reliability issues, cooling, brakes, etc. He's a pretty sharp guy and he had that car for a long time on track (I think 5-6 years) and every year I saw it, the car had more cooling, less weight and more brakes. I saw it loaded up on the trailer before the end of the weekend quite a few times and I dont know that he ever got it fully sorted but I have to imagine he was getting close. He was also VERY fast, and that will reveal more weaknesses in the car than with most HPDE students. D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:The archer racing Talons and Eclipses DOMINATED Narrow victories against a Honda CRX/Prelude for 3 years = Domination? Nemesis? At the time, world challenge was just club racing on a higher budget - not quite the same as it is now - totally different rules, bugets and teams. They did had a good team and good cars though. - xvxax - 09-03-2007 I was on my way back to Harrisonburg last night when a mid 30's woman in a red SHO with the VA plates "SHO Fun" tried to race me by revving up her engine and dropping her car into 3rd gear and taking off on route 66. I was in my 1991 Ford Ranger. True story. What brake pads are you running? - Chris - 09-03-2007 xvxax Wrote:I was on my way back to Harrisonburg last night when a mid 30's woman in a red SHO with the VA plates "SHO Fun" tried to race me by revving up her engine and dropping her car into 3rd gear and taking off on route 66. Nice lady, guess she likes the SHO power! - Jeff - 09-03-2007 Maengelito Wrote:wow, lets everyone overreact Damn right! There is too much hate in this thread already! I know its an SHO thread, but we need to keep the hating to a reasonable level. This car was pretty clean when I had dealings with it. Are you going to strip it out and make it "trak car!" or are you just going to have two busted modded SHOs? - .RJ - 09-03-2007 Chris Wrote:haha I think thats the guy's wife from Harrisonburg Honda. The steering is tight (no play, alignment is good, just passed MD state inspection.) Inner and outer TREs good. Will this pass tech? -Is it worth taking the time to gut the interior? -Is it legal to run straight exhaust in HPDE? - Nis01 - 09-04-2007 - No, not with NASA. - Should pass just fine, your instructor will briefly look over the car similar to the way BRR-SCCA does at the autocross. - No, just have the car ready to go. - No idea but your instructor might not want to ride with you for more than a session. - Evan - 09-04-2007 .RJ Wrote:The guy he's talking about is the same guy I said you should go talk to about reliability issues, cooling, brakes, etc. He's a pretty sharp guy and he had that car for a long time on track (I think 5-6 years) and every year I saw it, the car had more cooling, less weight and more brakes. Every car can be unreliable in some ways, and every car can be a great track car. One of my most memorable students cars was a damn Crown Victoria. Just shut up over this shit already. - Mike - 09-04-2007 Evan Wrote:Just shut up over this shit already. we did... - Evan - 09-04-2007 Mike Wrote::?:Evan Wrote:Just shut up over this shit already. - ViPER1313 - 09-04-2007 xvxax Wrote:What brake pads are you running? I ran street/sport pads on my wrx for the first 3 weekends and they were fine. but its always a good idea to bring spare rotors/pads too. - ViPER1313 - 09-04-2007 You really think the car would eat an entire set of brand new pads and rotors :?: |
