I need help - Feersty - 08-19-2007

Last Wednesday I was on the internet and all of a sudden this Brave Sentry 2.0 program starts loading. It has really eff'd up my computer. The task manager has been disabled, and if I try and load my computer with normal settings it doesn't do anything, I just have the hourglass permanently on the screen. I also get dumb Windows Installer dialog boxes.

At this point I can only launch my computer in Safe Mode, but obviously with that, I can't get on the internet or my email. I have run Norton Antivirus, until no viruses come up. Previously 39 viruses had been found.

It seems like the dumb Brave Sentry 2.0 is off my computer but my Task Manager button is disabled.

What can I do? I have had this computer for 6 years btw.

Macs will have viruses aplenty when a lot of people start using them.

In the sense of obtaining viruses from bad porn websites. If i thought it was bad overall i would be a hypocrite, considering the 4gb (an estimate, possibly much lower than reality) of it on my external hard drive

haha, okay... unbannination for you.

Haha... the brand has nothing to do with taxation. If you are operating a legitimate business, your computing equipment can either be capitalized and depreciated, or simply expensed. In both cases, the depreciation or expense lowers your taxable income, and thus you have a lower tax expense. To learn more, take tax accounting or read the GAAP tax code.

Feersty does not operate a legitimate business, therefore he cannot easily write off a Mac, or any computing equipment, on his taxes.

So, I therefore carefully inscribe:

My computer CPU usage is 100%. I try going to task manager and end tasks, but no dice. Is Brave Sentry still responsible for this crap?

What process is using the CPU resources?

I'm guessing you've got bigger problems than "Brave Sentry", this will teach you to go to www.seeasianslutsgetwhattheydeserve.com

I am not dumb. This is my parent's computer so I am definitely not clicking that one.

No virus hits with Norton Antivirus.

I am just speechless... no wonder you have more posts than me...

Feersty, find the process that's taking the CPU usage. Try creating a new user and logging in with that. See if that new user still has the high CPU usage. Run msconfig and see if there's anything that's starting up with the machine that looks funky.

- HAULN-SS - 08-21-2007

The only thing "safer" about using a mac, read: linux, is that there may be more kernel security, but trust me, if 90% of the world used macs, viruses would be just as rampant. If I'm writing a virus, do I want it to affect 8 people, or 3 billion?

Also - writing zeroes is the only way to completely ensure you have no more viruses.

I've never heard of a virus that survived a regular reformat.
