overheating..wtf mate? - HAULN-SS - 08-06-2007 So I was coming home today in the legacy - about a 10 mile trek from vienna...and all of a sudden about a mile from my house, my temp gauge is pegged, the check engine light is on, and the cruise control light is flashing. I get home and check the oil - full, and as far as I can tell in the dark, the coolant is full. That's about all I could do in the dark - any suggestions? - ScottyB - 08-06-2007 can you tell if your fans are working? what TSB's are out for legacy's? that might lead you to something i guess - JohnC - 08-06-2007 Is the coolant temp sensor still attached and functioning? - HAULN-SS - 08-06-2007 I'm checking now - the only thing I have seen is a cooling fan relay, but when it fails, it fails on, not off, so it wouldnt cause an overheat - .RJ - 08-06-2007 Is it still under warranty? - HAULN-SS - 08-06-2007 Yeah - still under warranty. I was just checking legacyGT.com, apparently the relay failing is kind of common, enough for a TSB - but apparently you have to pay to see the TSBs..how gay is that. One guy had something fail with ihs cooling system, they tried to fix it a couple times, and then he ended up getting a buyback because they couldint figure it out. - CaptainHenreh - 08-06-2007 Burn it with fire? - Nis01 - 08-06-2007 Was your coolant overflow tank full, is that what you are referring to? Perhaps thermostat or air issues in the radiator lines? Do anything different with the car out of the usual? Don't know much about the Legacy... forum is definitely the best bet. Good luck with it. Do you know of anybody with a Legacy Accessport? Might be able to read the code without marrying it to the ECU... - .RJ - 08-06-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:Yeah - still under warranty. Take it to the dealer and get a loaner - not even worth trying to solve. My dad works out @ the subaru dealer in Leesburg, they're good people. - HAULN-SS - 08-06-2007 Yeah - I was just trying to get some ideas together before going to the dealership. I have a suby dealership in herndon i'll take it to first for convenience, but if thye dont do anything, or dont get it fixed the first time, maybe I'll take it out to leesburg where your dad is - ziich - 08-06-2007 I applied at the herndon location to work in the parts dept once. They never called me back. I had a mohawk at the time. - D_Eclipse9916 - 08-07-2007 Nis01 Wrote:Was your coolant overflow tank full, is that what you are referring to? The code has a 99% probability of just being an overheating CHECK YOUR GAUGES type of code, my stock one does that at 234, but I set mine at 210 (yeah standalones...kind of) because I want to know way ahead before the temp gauge even starts moving. If its a common problem and the car is still under warranty, take it to them, dont even worry about it. I found out my overheating problem on track was due to a random coolant hose coming off my water pump had degraded over the years and was pushing coolant out and the thing just failed completely yesterday dumping all of my coolant out. Didnt realize it till I was filling up the radiator and I poured 2 gallons in and it still seemed empty and I was like...hmm my car doesnt take that much...then I heard the splattering of all the coolant, all 2 gallons on the floor  - HAULN-SS - 08-07-2007 yeah - coolant tank wasn't full, but there was pressure on the cap for sure. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary with the car..was just a short trip from vienna to herndon. - WRXtranceformed - 08-07-2007 Water pump may have taken a dump early? - HAULN-SS - 08-08-2007 Initial call back from the dealership this morning: "uhh..have you had the coolant flushed since you owned it or anything?" "nope" "hrmm, well, it was a little low, but we can't find anything...back to the drawing board" - Evan - 08-08-2007 some early WRXs had leaky radiators. My friend Jenny went through a couple. possibly something similar. - Maengelito - 08-08-2007 i had a radiator replaced under warranty as well - HAULN-SS - 08-08-2007 Hrmm - just got car back - they said they couldnt find anything. Light went off this morning, and they couldnt get it to come back on. He said the only code they pulled was something about a "Communication error between the high and low speed" whatever that means |
