Speaking on LCD TVs....Vizio, Element, others? - Jeff - 08-02-2007 The other TV thread got me thinking I outta ask MM about my bedroom TV. I'm looking to get a 32 or 37in flat panel LCD for the back bedroom. I have a 30in (wide screen aspect) Samsung HDCRT in there now...but I'm looking to upgrade to wall hanging status. Does anyone here have or know anyone that has any of the cheaper brands of LCD? I'm not looking to go crazy here. I can get a 37in LG for $950, a Toshiba for $850, or a Vizio 37 for $650. The Elements and Olevias are even cheaper. I've decided 100% against Olevia and Polaroid. Those are the only two I have decided have sub-standard picture quality. The Element is kinda shitty too, but the jury is still out...Thoughts? - white_2kgt - 08-02-2007 I'd put the Vizio in my bedroom, I would NEVER consider using it as my primary video source though. I have never seen the Element or Olevias to compare PQ. - JustinG - 08-02-2007 I have a Vizio 37in and a 47in LCD. Love them both, For the price I don't think they can be beat. Gaming on the 47in using the RGB input and XBOX 360 it looks awesome in 1080p the colors are more vibrant and it smoothed out the edges compared to the component input at 1080p. It also steps my DVDs up in quality through the 360. I think it makes an excellent primary television source if your on a budget, but if you can afford around $3k for a name brand TV in the same size then by all means get one of those. - Mike - 08-03-2007 buy the consumer reports article on TVs... the vizios and westinghouses scored pretty damn well. for a bedroom though, a bunch of them are just monitors so you'd need to bring your own speakers and such... just check that before you buy. - CaptainHenreh - 08-03-2007 I <3 my Olevia. But I'm not a huge AV nerd like you fuckers. - Evan - 08-03-2007 The westys have gotten good reviews. Remember that the actual LCD panels are only made by a small handful of companies, so many times the cheaper TVs have the same guts as the more expensive ones. Personally Id go with a 32" for around $400-$500 - JustinG - 08-03-2007 Evan Wrote:The westys have gotten good reviews. Just FYI for everyone, im pretty sure the vizios use a panasonic screen - Jeff - 08-03-2007 I always loved the picture of Panasonic Plazmas....but not their LCDs. This one I'm on right now is an LCD projection, which is fine for the living room. But I need a flat panel back there, that CRT has a SWEET picture but is so big and heavy. Most of the smaller Vizio TVs are only 720p....is the 47 really 1080p? I can get a 32in Vizio under $500...and I'm sure I can swing the 37 for like $650. - JackoliciousLegs - 08-03-2007 I don't put a TV in the bedroom. 1 TV is more than enough. - white_2kgt - 08-03-2007 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:I don't put a TV in the bedroom. 1 TV is more than enough. haha, don't come to my house, your head would explode. - JackoliciousLegs - 08-03-2007 All blasting FOX news no doubt
- ViPER1313 - 08-03-2007 I'm with Jack on this one - I don't even have cable at my apartment....... I'm a whore for new technology, but in my mind a TV is a TV  - Apoc - 08-03-2007 If there was an iTV you guys would prolly be all over it. - JustinG - 08-03-2007 TurboOmni08 Wrote:....is the 47 really 1080p? Fantastic image fidelity and excellent color. Don't bother with 1080p as no source has that level of detail except for BluRay as far as I know... - white_2kgt - 08-04-2007 John Wrote:Samsung LCDs are probably your best bang for the buck. HDDVD, XBox 360 and Playstation games. - John - 08-04-2007 I was told that 360 and PS3 actually are only 720p... hrug:

AND the difference between 720p and 1080p is VERY hard to justify. the only new technology i've really been impressed with is 8k... it's roughly 4000x2000 pixels... it's still very experimental, as 4k is still not even at the consumer level, but shit it looked freaking amazing... like better than real life
