Miata help needed - Scott - 07-31-2007

Ok, I have now had the Miata's left front corner apart for the third time this week and it is driving me insane. It all started with a groaning noise coming from the LF when making right hand turns, and there was some play in the bearing. I replaced the bearing, put the car on the ground, and everything seemed tight. Took it out for a drive and now the groaning is louder and more consistant than before. Off goes the wheel again to make sure I put on the bearing correctly and everything seems fine. Today I took the car to a local tire place to take a look, and they went with me in the car and heard the noise. I left it with them, they put it in the air and couldn't find a thing wrong or loose. So I am not just loosing my mind. Anyone have any ideas as to what the heck it is?

Swaybar mount/endlink busted and rubbing on the chassis?

hadn't thought of that before, when I get home I'll get back under it to check that

by bearing do you mean you replaced the whole hub?

make sure you tightened down the camber/caster bolts. those can make some noise (but usually its clunking)

I replaced the whole hub. The noise is definitly not a clunk, but I will check those out also.

at what speeds does this happen (can you do it when the car is stationary -- i.e. is it a ball joint?) and are you sure it's not just the tire rubbing something?

good luck, sorry i don't know much about these cars

I can only hear it at low speeds when turning right. I cannot make it do it when the car is in the air and there is no evidence of tire rub (plus I have had the same tires on it for a while)

Ummm, this could be your problem. Awesome jumps will kill a car, unless it's the General Lee.
