What do you remember from your childhood? - Goodspeed - 07-17-2007 What are some of the things you remember from your childhood, that you wish you still had or could still do today? For me, I remember..... Reading Calvin & Hobbes, The Far Side, and Bloom County... best comics ever. Also one of my favorite books was Richard Scarry's Busytown and his other titles, with characters like "Lowly Worm" and "Huckleberry Cat" ![]() C&H remains one of my favorites because you could still laugh at it as a kid, but to this day I still find new ways of finding it funny and humorous...its one of those very rare stories that grows with you Playing early computer games like the still-awesome Maelstrom, Magic Mountain and Aldo's Adventure, a 1987 ripoff of Mario: ![]() Watching early to mid 90's TV...when some of the greatest songs we know today were new on MTV (back when MTV didn't suck). And I liked Hootie & the Blowfish when I was a kid. I used to watch American Gladiators. Also, another memorable show I watched was ReBoot, the first and best computer animated show ever ![]() Movies...well, there were really only two movies I cared about when I was a kid, Mad Max (Road Warrior) and Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp (my hero)...both badass movies. ![]() I have an older brother about most of your guy's age (23), so he introduced me to a lot of this stuff. I just get the sense that kids these days don't have it nearly as good as we did. Today kids have Paris Hilton and short skirts/cell phones at 12, when I was a kid I had baseball in the cul-de-sac and catching fireflys till the sun went down. Man, those were the days. - Ginger - 07-17-2007 When I was a kid... does that mean "when I was Goodspeed's age"? ![]() Scambled channels. I get the real thing now, but I mean, c'mon, those were the good old dys. - ScottyB - 07-17-2007 yeah we had it good. i'll just go over tv/movies alone - airwolf, A-team, knight rider, thunder cats, he-man, disney afternoon, transformers of course. you also had cool heroes like indiana jones who i used to idolize. bill and ted, top gun, etc. i'm also in agreement that bill watterson is a bona fide genius. i love that he never sold out. i have most all the books, still read them quite a bit. they make me feel like a kid but i can still read into more mature issues he was getting at that i never understood before when i was little. - Mike - 07-17-2007 gi joe, masters of the universe, playing with plastic army men, traveling all over for baseball, playing guns, night games, visiting the west. - white_2kgt - 07-17-2007 ATVing, Dirt Biking, Camping Off Roading, all the things one can't do living in a concrete jungle. - Jewels - 07-17-2007 I remember playing outside until dark, or at least until I heard the sound of my dad's whistle for me to come home. Riding my bike with no helmet, and going to the ER for a busted face, no mention of the lack of helmet. - BLINGMW - 07-17-2007 I have trouble separating actual memories from dreams and things people told me I did. I "remember" big wheels, hot wheels, Legos. I very much look forward to having a kid so I can have an excuse to play Legos! Other memories of things, places, people, turn out to be things that weren't real, so I don't usually bother giving my memory much credit. I'm told at maybe age 3-4ish I used to ride down the ~quarter mile, steep road to our house (it was great for sledding too) on something similar to this: ![]() I WANNA GO FAST I WANNA GO FAST I WANNA GO FAST!! - John - 07-17-2007 Climbing trees, falling out of trees, breaking wrists, building tree houses, stabbing self with rusty nails, stepping in fire ant piles - all stuff that parents sue for nowadays. - HAULN-SS - 07-17-2007 Lots of bike riding, dirtbike riding, building treehouses, damming a creek.....guess thats about it. Only had 3 channels of TV til i was 16. - ScottyB - 07-17-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:damming a creek.....guess thats about it. Only had 3 channels of TV til i was 16. yeah i don't know why but i had some kind of a magnetic attraction to creeks. i ruined every pair of shoes i had when i was a kid, waterlogging them and getting them full of mud. i didn't know what cable was when i was little. we didn't get it until i was about 15. - HAULN-SS - 07-17-2007 same here..i should've been a civil engineer, haha! The dams always held pretty good until a massive thunderstorm or something came along - then it was rebuild time! - Ginger - 07-17-2007 Jewels Wrote:. We just had the basic 3 channel deal so none of us really watched TV. Most of my spare time was spent working on our farm. Making sure the garden was tilled and growing well most all year long while growing different crops. We never bought any produce from stores because we always grew our own. Riding on the tractor with dad while he bushhog'd the parts of our land we didn't have cattle on, growing cutting and hanging tobacco, then getting to drive the tractor through town with a wagon full of tobacco to take to the market to get paid. I remember spending a good amount of time splitting wood and selling it to people down the road. Didn't get a whole lot of inside time when I was young. But when we did get to have fun I spent a fair amount of time playing with GI Joes. We built a huge playground for them back in our woods in a big dirt wall, had cubbyholes for them and ladders and everything. Also had a tree house up in the woods but we didn't get to use it very much cause it was starting to get old and mom worried about us up there. We had a 3-wheeler that we got to have some fun with. Did a little cowtipping from time to time, fuckin around in the barn for no particular reason than to get away from my sisters, stuff like that. - Jewels - 07-17-2007 asteele2 Wrote:Jewels Wrote:. Riding my bike with no helmet, and going to the ER for a busted face Its actually a reoccuring theme, or maybe variations on a theme. - ScottyB - 07-17-2007 Ryan T Wrote:stuff that sounds like an awesome time. it's probably good i didn't get to do too much stuff like that though, i was pretty accident prone as a kid and being in trees/barns would have really jacked me up - HAULN-SS - 07-17-2007 lol..a treehouse is probably much safer than a 3 wheeler - white_2kgt - 07-17-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:lol..a treehouse is probably much safer than a 3 wheeler fuck a 3 wheeler man, one of my friends had one and he would dump that thing like everytime we went riding. He couldn't climb up a hill to save his life, not to mention take a turn w/ any kind of speed. Finally sold it after he flipped it back on himself trying to jump a little mound of dirt and busted out 2 teeth and put a nice size dent in the gas tank from his knee. - Sijray21 - 07-17-2007 i'll do a visual rememberance for the shows and games: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() playing games with the neighborhood friends: cops and robbers football / kickball riding my bicycle around my pedal red car hotrod - Ryan T - 07-17-2007 white_2kgt Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:lol..a treehouse is probably much safer than a 3 wheeler hell yeah 3-wheelers are dangerous, we just had it to do small stuff around the farm when we didn't need the tractor. Running little things from one barn to the other, etc. - white_2kgt - 07-17-2007 Ryan T Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:HAULN-SS Wrote:lol..a treehouse is probably much safer than a 3 wheeler we had ATV's for that, with great big racks on the front and back, also came in handy during hunting season  We had like 5 deer and 3 grown men on my dads honda 300 one season haha. Oh yea, that's another thing I miss, Hunting. Nothing like shotting dead one of gods creatures then gutting it down by the river and skinning it in the garage later that night and eating it for dinner. mmmm, good old days. Would you like me to post pics?
