Project '73 Honda CB750 - JohnC - 07-01-2007 Picked it up today. I'm not sure yet how its going to go. Cosmetically, its not as bad as it looks. Most of the chrome just has mild surface rust. I cleaned up the front fender with some steel wool and it looks terrific. The tank is dirty but dent-free. I have most of the parts (minus the throttle controls) that you don't see in the pictures. The real rough spots are: Engine is seized. Turned over before it was parked approximately a year ago. I've got some ATF in the cylinders, will try the kickstarter tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I've got two spare engines. Holy exhaust, Batman! The upper left-hand pipe is rusted through and doesn't appear to be fixable. No seat. - CaptainHenreh - 07-01-2007 Awesome! Is the CB750 the "Official MM Classic Bike"? - .RJ - 07-01-2007
- JohnC - 07-01-2007 Still no turning over with the kickstarter... I'm going to buy an impact screwdriver this week, open it up, and try a breaker bar on the crankshaft. - Kaan - 07-02-2007 1973 CB750 = lots of them out there. they were a popular bike back in the day. - JohnC - 07-02-2007 So, the breaker bar didn't turn anything over... Yargh. Any other tricks for breaking this thing loose? I'm going to evaluate the other engines in the meantime, but I really didn't want to have pull this one out. Also, I can't believe I never owned an impact screwdriver before now. Hot damn thats nice. - .RJ - 07-02-2007 Try some marvel mystery oil in addition to the ATF, let it sit for a day or so. If you need a hand I'll come help you swap engines
- Maengelito - 07-04-2007 hot damn indeed. its been awhile since i've been over there john. lemme know when you need an extra set of hands that knows nothing about motorcycles - JohnC - 07-04-2007 Maengelito Wrote:hot damn indeed. its been awhile since i've been over there john. lemme know when you need an extra set of hands that knows nothing about motorcycles It'll be soon, because I'm pretty sure the engine is coming out  - PGK - 07-04-2007 I'm pretty close to you, and I can bring tools/knowledge with me, if an extra hand is required. With advance notice I can bring stuff from work too. - Ginger - 07-04-2007 He Lives in Palmyra... Financial Ruins isn't a location
- JohnC - 07-04-2007 asteele2 Wrote:Financial Ruins isn't a location Tell that to Jess  - Evan - 07-04-2007 WD40/PB blaster > ATF - .RJ - 07-04-2007 How is WD40 going to free stuck piston rings? If you need a penetrant, Kroil > WD40/PB Blaster. - JohnC - 07-05-2007 So I'm going to give the Marvel Mystery Oil / ATF cocktail until Saturday afternoon, then the engine is coming out. With that in mind, today I stripped everything else off the bike, leaving basically a bare rolling frame and the engine. - Ginger - 07-05-2007 A coworker of mine has several good cb750 mills. Do you want me to pass your email on? - JohnC - 07-05-2007 asteele2 Wrote:A coworker of mine has several good cb750 mills. Do you want me to pass your email on? Please do. It appears that all three of the engines I have are seized. - .RJ - 07-05-2007 Bonfire time! - JohnC - 07-05-2007 .RJ Wrote:Bonfire time! Indeed. If nothing else, I've had fun using the impact screwdriver. - ViPER1313 - 07-05-2007 Clicky POW! |
