Help! My Mom wants a Scion! - LorenaBeana - 06-21-2004 Yeah, you read correctly. Mom likes the boxy Scion...X....b? I dunno. Now, it is a Toyota, so it is permissable by brand alone, but Dad wouldn't even look at it in the showroom. We are trying to get my Mom either a Sienna (she doesn't need a van, but wants it for future grandkids hock: ) or a Prius (she commutes 1.5hrs one way). And we want to get rid of the 85 Toyota Van on it's 3rd engine, 350kish miles, no A/C, etc with which she is in love. Any thoughts on the Scions? I am...not a fan. And Mom doesn't understand the basic premise of the Scion line, the whole within-warranty mod thing...she likes the way it friggin looks! Any help would be appreciated.
- JackoliciousLegs - 06-21-2004 i kinda like them...
- KPWSerpiente - 06-21-2004 I'd club her. I drive by those things and occasionally see someone over the age of 25 driving them, and all I can say is WTF, Mate? Has she looked into a Honda Element? I don't really know much about those but it jumps to mind as being between a scion and a mini van. -T - Mike - 06-21-2004 I like em, very roomy vehicle for its size. The power really bothers me tho... The Prius is also an excellent idea, I've read it is huge step forward in the Hybrid category. - white_2kgt - 06-21-2004 P.O.S. -c - Feersty - 06-21-2004 My mom has an element. It fits my family(4) comfortably, loads of head room. If you get a Scion xB, rims are a MUST! What is the powerplant in the xB anyways? - JackoliciousLegs - 06-21-2004 Feersty Wrote:powerplantif you can call it that

I'm also liking the honda hybrid and the prius. I test drove the honda hybrid, and kinda liked it, lol. I'd go test drive it and see how the overall feel of the car is though. the Scion tc doesn't appear to be bad at around $16K with 160hp and 163tq. comes with bling-bling'n 17" wheels and 18" and 19" options hock:

- CaptainHenreh - 06-21-2004 As a people hauler an Xb isn't automatically a bad car. I'll never be seen in one, but I was never one for people haulers.
- BLINGMW - 06-21-2004 I got no beef with the xB. I can't come up with any arguement against it if that's what your mom wants. It is a Toyota, it's very utilitarian, sufficient drivetrain, great value. Who cares if Toyota WANTS the kids to buy it and rice it out, I haven't seen one on the streets like that yet, and they don't come pre-riced or anything. Not my bag, but seems like a good vehicle. - Maengelito - 06-21-2004 BLINGMW Wrote:Who cares if Toyota WANTS the kids to buy it and rice it out, I haven't seen one on the streets like that yet, and they don't come pre-riced or anything. BULLSHIIIIIIIT!!!! i seem to remember a convo online where you were able to build your own scion online and bump the starting price from like $14k to $35k with all those crazy options like the $700 aem cold air intake. i bet you actually bought it and hide it because you think we cant see you driving it in georgia... - BLINGMW - 06-22-2004 ya got me. I DID go to their site and pimp out an xA, it's amazing how much the car ends up costing. hock: Unfortunatly, I did not buy it.

I got quoted 395 installed for the AEM CAI. And as far as the xB goes, to all those who rag on it, I suggest you go test drive one. I ran up to my toyota dealership when these things hit the streets and searched around 3 dealers and finally found a manual one to take out. The interior is VERY roomy. Its in SUV territory in terms of interior space. Furthermore the interior is very nice, well laid out, and in good quality for the price of the vehicle. The seats are quite comfortable and VERY stylish for the price bracket in their pseudo-recarro feel and look. Rear hatch space is great also. Along with the fact that this is an extremely affordable vehicle, you get great gas mileage, a large factory and aftermarket performance support. The TRD turbo kit for them will be out soon and will be available to roll into financing ![]() The large issue though is the power, and before being a boy-ricer number-racer and discounting it on its low power, know that the car weighs a bit less than similarly powered cars by other manufacturers. It is a bit sluggish but then again isnt meant to be a racecar. It could make its way in traffic relatively easily. My only issue is the somewhat compact engine compartment which would make maintenance/modding a bitch. - Feersty - 06-22-2004 Feersty Wrote:What is the powerplant in the xB anyways? - 83Rabbit - 06-22-2004 the echo engine - Evan - 06-22-2004 I kind of like the Xa... and the new sporty coupe. the thoght briefly entered my head to buy one as a commuter car, but buying new cars sucks - Jess - 06-22-2004 i've seen two xb's around the ATL...one was painted a hideous orange color and the other was "wrapped" with the logo for a business called 1-800-Got-Junk.... oh and then there was the one all pimped out on "pimp my ride"... they look roomy though....and surprisingly smaller than i expected... |
