The Mower Project: What to do with a 6.6hp engine - Mike - 05-01-2007 I picked up a rusted old Craftsman mower yesterday for free. The mower itself was useless, but the engine runs just fine and puts out 6.6hp! Sooo... Time to start some sort of project. I'm assuming a kart... Current issues: 1. Don't have a welder 2. Don't know how to design anything 3. Need lots of parts 4. I'm not sure how the engine actually works (it has an on/off throttle)... how can I get analog adjustments of speed? Anyone else ever tackle something like this? Hints? Tips? Links? - Maengelito - 05-01-2007 two turbos, then call me in the morning - .RJ - 05-01-2007 Put it in your VFR - maybe you wont crash it again
- CaptainHenreh - 05-01-2007 go-kart frame + CVT. - Mike - 05-01-2007 .RJ Wrote:Put it in your VFR - maybe you wont crash it again speed isn't my issue... stopping is
- white_2kgt - 05-01-2007 6hp isn't much, if it were mine I'd hook it up to my spare air compressor and have a portable one .
- Mike - 05-01-2007 if this goes nowhere, it's yours
- HAULN-SS - 05-01-2007 I was gonna suggest making a water pump of some sort out of it - I picture being able to hook it up to a 55gal drum of water and firehosing people...but compessor works just as well I suppose. - D_Eclipse9916 - 05-01-2007 go kart can be done with 6.6 horsepower, it would actually be decently quick. Not amazing, but quick, especially if your building it as small as possible. The ones at Gforce I beleive are 5 horsepower, so you would have 30% more power than those which is a lot. - WRXtranceformed - 05-01-2007 I was thinking compressor too. Or you could be totally sweet and make some kind of hovercraft! - Goodspeed - 05-01-2007 I second the air compressor idea, but make some sort of cannon with it, something like this but on a smaller scale

They SEEM fast b/c they are in a confined place, get them out in the open and you will be bored to tears. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time building something that I was going to ride around 7hp. Is the shaft a bottom driven or side? I'm going to guess it's bottom. - Mike - 05-01-2007 bottom... makes everything a bit more difficult. - white_2kgt - 05-01-2007 Mike Wrote:bottom... makes everything a bit more difficult. yup, throw it in the trash. - Mike - 05-01-2007 I have fantasies of gears and converters and shit, though! - Apoc - 05-01-2007 Build a sybian out of it. - Mike - 05-01-2007 it's already an upside-down one
- white_2kgt - 05-01-2007 Mike Wrote:I have fantasies of gears and converters and shit, though! yea, with no welder or design skills. You'd be better off to BUY the proper engine rather than to try and make some ill suited POS do what it was never intended to do. - Apoc - 05-01-2007 Mike Wrote:it's already an upside-down one You're almost there... just need to add a plasticized dong and you're ready! I guess you have to figure out how to keep the gas from spilling but that's all in the details. - WRXtranceformed - 05-01-2007 You could probably get a little cash for it on Craigslist, and set that aside into a fund to build up a proper go-cart! |
