black widows are not particularly agressive, at least not compared to a scorpion. not really a surprising outcome. now, mantis vs. scorpion.....
conincidentally, since some 'nokers are here -- be careful of black widow spiders, my mom has found 2 living in her mailbox and 1 living in the garden hose tote behind our place in the past few years. they were sprayed and definitely varified as BW's.

ive had blackwidows in my basement at home, i just squish em, but then there are some spiders that look like blackwidows, markings and all. So it could of been them.

Black widows don't scare me as much as brown recluses - and yes, both are all over the Mid-Atlantic region. My parents have had an infestation problem with BWs in the past near their basement door.
