So, I reserved a Smart Car! - PDenbigh - 04-27-2007

Our company just reserved a Smart ForTwo Passion for 2008 :-). According to Smart, a dealer will contact us in the 2nd half of 2007 to finalize things, and we can expect delivery early 2008.

If only it were electric Undecided. Regardless, can't wait to do a review!

What's the primary purpose of said vehicle? I think it'd be a sweet commuter car if there weren't 3 ton SUVs flying about around me. When do you get to track it?

- white_2kgt - 04-27-2007

you can get a fleet of those like geek squad did w/ the bug's

Or add some b00st!

- CaptainHenreh - 04-27-2007

Was a price negotiated?

- PDenbigh - 04-27-2007

The purpose of the car is for our techs to drive around Harrisonburg (We're an IT company).

I thought I'd AutoX it at least once....

And no price yet. They claim around $14,000. We paid a small deposit and all of logistics, including color, options, etc, get worked out at a later date.

Some hate the car, some love it. I'm in the "love it" group. I saw them everywhere when I was in Switzerland in 2003 and have wanted one ever since.

When I lived in Belgium I used to see a Smart car dealer that was a glass tower/parking deck full of them, it was awesome, seeing like 50 of them parked in there. Definitely cool little cars...I have a soft spot for weird micro cars.

there's one driving around here in c'ville. i see it probably like 2 or 3 times a month always going the opposite way from me. i really wanna just stop them and talk to them about how they like it. its so tiny but i bet its so easy to park. hell the miata is so easy to park in downtown where all the parking is along the street parallel style, i cant imagine how much easier that thing would be.

That is true. I remember you talking about them when I was still there.

The picture reminds me of the photochop someone was posting of the high end cars with the middles chopped out.

Cool cars.

I'm curious what is "smart" about the car. Does it do anything exceptionally well, or is it just a really small car?

there are some interesting aspects -- stuff like interchangable plastic body panels (the silver part is the actual unibody), semi auto gearbox, and aparently they are very safe for a tiny car. other than that, it pretty much revolves around them being tiny

- Feersty - 04-29-2007

I like your environmentally conscious decisions, Pete.

- white_2kgt - 05-15-2007

look out pete, apparently it's the new 'cow tipping',

Lol!

- PDenbigh - 05-15-2007

Lol, time to add the "flamethrowing smart-tipping prevention" option ...

man, that thing sounds like ass, or the camera was picking up something funny

considering it was throwing a 3' flame from the exhaust, I'd be willing to bet it was having some issues

- HAULN-SS - 05-15-2007

oh...i thought that was just like a propane kit or something

- white_2kgt - 05-15-2007

HAULN-SS Wrote:oh...i thought that was just like a propane kit or something

No, that was a stuck injector dumping 8x the normal raw fuel into the cylinder then hitting a 1500* exhaust gas.
