Can You Hear This? - mrbaggio - 04-25-2007 Make sure you speakers are set to a normal volume before you play the sound. Play it and post if you can hear it or not. http://static.instructables.com/orig/FN ... B0A7EM.mp3 It is a clip of a high frequency sound that only young people are supposed to be able to hear (below 30). I can hear it at 25. My parents could not at mid 50s. It drove my dog crazy also. Kind of stange for the dog. She is really old and her hearing is failing. This has been floating around the news for a while, but this is the first time I heard the clip for myself. - Dave - 04-25-2007 loud and clear here - PDenbigh - 04-25-2007 My office backs up to a vet clinic. I Turned it up really loud and the dogs went nuts :-). - BLINGMW - 04-25-2007 Damn. I can't hear it at all. On crappy laptop speakers, but I doubt that matters. It's cranked all the way up!
- mrbaggio - 04-25-2007 BLINGMW Wrote:Damn. I can't hear it at all. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I played it for my coworkers and the older ones couldn't hear it. At first they did not beieve me that real noise was coming out. Laptop is ok. That's where I'm playing it too. - BLINGMW - 04-25-2007 29. I'll test it on Jess when I get home, she can hear like TV interference and crap - Mike - 04-25-2007 there is actually a site that lets you change the frequency... we were messing with it here at work... people ranged from 15k-19k. - .RJ - 04-25-2007 I am a little deef, and I can hear that... - BLINGMW - 04-25-2007 hahaha I just sent it to my 23yr old co-worker, he put his headphones on and jumped out of his chair "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT ME?!" I still couldn't hear it

Can you send me that link? - HAULN-SS - 04-25-2007 heard it no problems -23 - Sijray21 - 04-25-2007 heard it, kinda hurt - 23coworker heard it - 24 coworker heard it - 34 - WRXtranceformed - 04-25-2007 I heard it and my hearing is terrible. Kinda hurt too! I'll be 25 in a few days. - ViPER1313 - 04-25-2007 Thats only a 15khz tone - most people under 50 should be able to hear that. ![]() A more accurate test of hearing is a sine sweep from 10 to 22khz - you just find the point in the file that you can't hear the sound anymore. You also have to be careful about what type of sound card / headphones / speakers you use for the test. Many sound cards distort the upper frequencies due to re-sampling techniques (ie.. all Creative cards) and bring inaudible frequencies into the audible range. Many speakers also cannot accurately represent such high frequencies.

The 50yr old guy here can't hear 8k lol I'm kind of sad about it! I've never had a loud stereo, had very little time with walkmans and the like when I was young, and have only been to a handful of loud concerts. :dunno: Now I'm depressed and feeling old, thanks for ruining my day! - .RJ - 04-25-2007 Driving to work in a busted ass e30 doesnt already ruin your day? - Mike - 04-25-2007 i can hear up to 18. - HAULN-SS - 04-25-2007 Well, i just tried this - I could hear up to 17k fine, and the only other one I could hear was 21k. It's like I'm deaf to those in between there. Also - the most painful one to hear was the 9k one. may try this again at home where I have a good set of speakers |
