Nurburgring info? Who's been? - GQROB - 04-23-2007 I am headed to Germany in a few weeks and am looking for info on the Nurburgring. Where can I rent a car? What are passing/ being passed rules. Point by's, blinkers? Anything else I need to know? - Kaan - 04-23-2007 Its my understanding that the ring is like a toll road of sorts. I think John and Channing have been there... i'm sure they'll chime in more regularly - BLINGMW - 04-23-2007 We've got two threads from previous visits: John S's trip: http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... urburgring John C's and me: http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... urburgring I think John S's has some info on rental and such, John C and I rented in Paris. You'll find the most useful info here, definitely read all here if you haven't already. He's got schedules there, make sure it's going to be open! http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ BTW. You are going to LOVE IT. Feel free to give me a call/PM if you want to chat about it. Re: Nurburgring info? Who's been? - John - 04-23-2007 GQROB Wrote:I am headed to Germany in a few weeks and am looking for info on the Nurburgring. Not sure what the latest on available cars is, but as Bimmerboy noted, www.nurburgring.co.uk is the best resource out there on the basics on the 'Ring. I rented a Z4 from eSixT, and they did check the navigation afterwards, so not sure if they were looking for "Nurburg" in the registry or what... ![]() No point-byes as it's technically a public toll road (and it can be a bit chaotic at times), so the typical method is simply to pull to the right to let the passer by on the left. I used point-byes, which may have confused the other 'Ringers, but oh well. Be sure to check the schedule to see if the Nordschliefe will be open - it's usually only open on Sundays all day... Have a great trip and be sure to enjoy it! - JohnC - 04-23-2007 We definitely cleared the nav on our car before returning it. During the week, the 'Ring was open in the late afternoon. I think we only had time each day for ~6 laps or so. And, in case it hasn't come across, it was an absolute thrill and completely unforgettable. I'll definitely do it again before I die (maybe *just* before), on a bike. - GQROB - 04-24-2007 Thanks Guys
- ButtDyno - 04-24-2007 www.rent-racecar.de Theo rocks. My writeup: http://www.buttdynoracing.com/wp/?p=46 Me in Grassroots Motorsports: http://www.buttdynoracing.com/gallery2/ ... alNumber=1 Re: point-bys I think the protocol is to put your right turn signal on when you are being passed (as in, "I'm getting out of your way now"). And always always always pass on the left. john - GQROB - 04-25-2007 More great info! Thanks. I didn't realize that was you in GRM. I will have to dig up that issue. - GQROB - 04-30-2007 I don't need to bring my helmet, do I? I noticed in a few pics that you guys had helemets. I plan on renting at the rent a race car place. - ButtDyno - 04-30-2007 Rent-racecar had a couple of helmets. - GQROB - 05-09-2007 Dayum! Rain is forecast in much of Germany for the next ten days. Oh well, seems like most of my track days have been on a wet track anyways, so at least I am ready. - ButtDyno - 05-09-2007 Good luck! When I was there, the 325 coupe had ASC and the sedan didn't. In the wet, it would have definitely been a "nice to have" ![]() john - Feersty - 05-11-2007 I stayed in Saarbrucken for a month, but I wasn't 25 at the time, so I couldn't rent a car. Otherwise I would have. - GQROB - 05-14-2007 Well, I drove and rode along yesterday. I drove a little rental car, and rode along in a new M5 with my sisters relative who races the 24hour race. I had a great time and will write more later. - ScottyB - 05-14-2007 GQROB Wrote:and rode along in a new M5 with my sisters relative who races the 24hour race. do tell..... hock:
- GQROB - 05-14-2007 I didnt realize that the M5 was so powerful. I think he told me that it had 500h.p. at the touch of a button for the sport mode. Anyways, he took me for a very aggressive drive in which he battled it out with a M3. The M3 was on R compounds a would be right on our but in the twisites, but we lost him on the straights. The track had a lot of elevation change and was relatively narrow. I would be broke if I lived here from spending money on laps. I will attach pics later. Re: Nurburgring info? - BLINGMW - 05-16-2007 Looks really nice out! 8) So what'd you end up driving, a 3cyl diesel Peugeot or something? - ScottyB - 05-16-2007 mmm technoviolet M3....the only car that can pull off a color that ridiculous  - GQROB - 05-16-2007 Not sure what I drove. It was small, with I think a 1.6 ltr gas engine. It couldn't have had much more than 100h.p.. It was similar to a civic. It was good enough to run touring laps and I actually did pass one small car, but cetainly came no where near comparing to the M5 ride along. The blue GT3 in the parking lot was a beast. It sounded awesome and pretty much so had every compnent a cup car would have from what I saw. The were a few more very impressive cars that I didn't get pics of. I saw a very nice green Porsche Carrera RS and a Viper that appeared to be one of the old Oreca team race cars. |
