Possible MMsports Project? - l33t Mr2 - 04-19-2007

Hey guys

The owner of the Mr2 board Bill Strong just offered me a deal. Which is quite good in my opinion. he lives in charlottesville to

He offered to trade me my turbo engine lid for a black hardtop! 1985 mr2 rolling chasis which has been garage kept for the past 3 years. He says the shell is in good condition considering the age. Being a shell it has no motor/tranny ect. I think this would make a great project for the club if we can find a place for it. I know you can easily swap in a 5sfe and tranny from a camry or a mkII mr2. You can usually pick one up cheap. I know sold my old 5sfe and trans for 50 dollars. 135hp and 145tq in a mki mr2 that weighs less than 2000lbs would make a killer autox car. I don't know if this would qualify for the GRM2007 project or not but it would be a great start.

here is the quote from bill on the MR2OC

"early model 1985.

No motor.
No tranny.

birds nest in interior. can be cleaned out.

Rear firewall has been cut for MK1.5 install.
This was the 2nd MK1.5 built, just never completed 100%.

It has a New York Rebuilt/Salvage Title free of all liens.

VIN - JT2AW15C3F0030428

It is a stripper model. It is pretty complete. Needs front nose as I needed that for another car.

It is black.

Has been in garage for last 3 years.

It will take parts and work to get legal again.

It is either this or I cut the roof off and junk it.

Cost is $100 OBO
I can deliver for $1 a mile per Google maps.
Located in 22922 (Nelson County Virginia)"

He also said that we can raid his parts in his backyard to complete anythign that is broken

"You can also raid the RSm parts bin of anything needed, like headlight pods etc to make the car whole.
Hoods etc.

I also have a 1987 that will be going to the junk yard. It has the top cut off. But still has lots of parts left.

I need to get rid of two cars so I can get a couple of new things per the wife.

Time is important here"

I think this is a great opportunity to make a kick ass car and we should hop on it!

Somebody should hop on it, anyway.

- Maengelito - 04-19-2007

it doesnt seem like MM is interested in GRM projects anymore. this bill strong guy used to post on UVA's board a lot (when i still visited their board) and his MR2 sounds pretty badass. Northstar V8 engine somehow wedged into that tiny chassis? thats awesome

somebody should, im just worried about the salvage title and what is a 1.5 conversion?

Putting a 3SGTE in an MKI MR2.

- l33t Mr2 - 04-19-2007

Well I would do it. I just need a place to store it until i get my house in august...

anybody have a free space they wanna put an mr2 in for me Smile i will buy you something nice

I can ask him about the salvage title.. i am sure bill wouldn't attempt to do a 1.5 swap on a crap chasis.. the car was probably stolen or somthing. I would not be worried about the resale value because its going to be gutted anyway.

- D_Eclipse9916 - 04-19-2007

I would be interested, but I have nowhere, unless you count visitors parking at squire hill....

- Ryan T - 04-19-2007

your technically allowed two parking passes at squire hill...

- l33t Mr2 - 04-19-2007

lettsss doo othissss

- D_Eclipse9916 - 04-19-2007

im up for it!

- l33t Mr2 - 04-19-2007

are you serious? we get it on sunday then.. are you going to the autocross?

-matt

- D_Eclipse9916 - 04-19-2007

I would be seriously interested in this....I am going to ask squire hill for another parking pass, Ryan...if you said your allowed to have two.

First off, do the motor mounts and tranny mounts bolt right up? We dont need to register it till we get it running so no big deal. Does it come with a set of wheels, even if their shitty theyre good. Let me know id be willing to split halfway on this.

- Jeff - 04-19-2007

no...MM needs NO MORE CARS. I don't want to be selling off this POS piece by piece in a year.

- l33t Mr2 - 04-19-2007

yeah it comes with a stock pair of wheels.. he said we could take parts off his other parts car too...

i already emailed him about the motor mounts he said you have to weld a few things but he would help us... he said its really easy ... he has done the 5sfe mki before

- CaptainHenreh - 04-19-2007

And so it starts...again.

Good luck, maybe we can *finally* make this work.

- D_Eclipse9916 - 04-19-2007

wtf? I aint talking about an MMsports project, talking about a project between me and mr2 guy....if MMsports or anybody else would like to jump in it would be great. The club first needs to get rid of the stuff we already have before even thinking of it. I am looking at this as a fun project between a few friends, and using it for autocross/track events.

Email him and tell him we are incredibly interested..I would be up for it.

Thank god...keep it to yourself

:?:

Sorry, I was confused by the thread title saying "Possible MMSports project" and you saying "WHOO FUCK YEAH LET'S DO IT!*"

Also, I'd talk to your complex before I went and got an enginless unregistered roller. You're likely to get in bad with the HBurg 5-0 like that.

*paraphrased

- l33t Mr2 - 04-20-2007

I don't see a big deal as long as we can find a place for it until i get my house in august. You can't go wrong with a Free shell if we can't keep it we sell it for 100 bucks and make 50 dollars each.

i emailed him explaining our interest.

- Dave - 04-20-2007

For the record, I had a car at my house, on private property, for less than a month before I had a ticket explaining that it would be towed if it didn't have tags and registration within 30 days. This was at a house, literally on the property not on the street, not an apt. complex. Just make sure it is all taken care of before you bring it home. Why not just slip the guy $50 or something and ask him to keep it at his place until August?
