MM music video or documentary - ScottyB - 06-09-2004

i was wondering how many of you guys would like to try to start filming our adventures and developing the footage into a video compilation. i personally have zero access to a digi cam or editing software, but maybe some of you do? i think it would be alot of fun, it would bring the club together even more, and it would be great advertisement at club days or to show at events. here is an example of what i am aiming for us to maybe go for:

http://www.hightach.com/frames.htm (under members... go to the video section at the bottom...the auto-x vids are a good example) i'd post the video but i dont have the space on we-todd-did.

anyway does anyone think we can do this? it would be easy to make a camera mount or two for inside cars, and we could film just about anything....cruises, shows, racing, wrench days, bbq's, etc. i know some of you guys already have footage too, like Evan and Ryan. what do you all think?

The trick is finding someone to take up such a project. Great idea, I'm all for it. And hosting is not an issue.

I certianly enjoy making vids, and am happy to help. I could probably scrounge up a copy of Final Cut Pro and commandeer Jess' iBook, but moving gigs of raw video over the net isn't much fun. Sad You campus boyz have access to all the stuff you need to make vids like that! Certianly someone will volunteer.....

PS: did you ever see the one we made of the autocross we finally got to have on campus?

- ScottyB - 06-09-2004

yeah i still have that video, it was pretty cool. last time i checked i could find it on kazaa too....we're famous!

at the very end, does someone say "homo ryan?" i could never make that out.

- BLINGMW - 06-09-2004

 yeah, I couldn't resist leaving that in 8)

You had to man, it was the lunchbox for heaven's sake Smile

I love making videos but I have no DV recorder. I use my little POS camera that takes shitty video. I'll do it if someone gives me the video...

Scott Ive been toying with the idea of publishing an MM DVD for quite some time now. Any MM video (...legal.....) would be great to put on. Right now about the only MM video I have are me and ryan driving the miata at varios tracks.

I pretty decent Premier and After Effects skills, but now the learning curve seems to be actually building the DVD. Not as simple as I thought it would be. (To make a professional DVD anyway not drag and drop Roxio stuff) Adobe's DVD tool which I was looking forward to (which I installed XP.o.s for) turns out to suck ass, so Im back to looking for decent software.

Unfortunately what sucks about video and dvd production is that it takes an incredible amount of time from start to finish.

- Mike - 06-10-2004

Poor you, you installed XP Sad

I've got some MM Video footage of the drive we took in the fall. I've just got to get to Circuit City and buy the shit to put it on my computer. I've been meaning to do it for a long time, but just never got around too it. I've also got some good auto-x footage of the MM members.

If everyone keeps copies of all the raw video we take over the year. Capture the raw video over the course of the year then we can put it together with Premiere or Final Cut Pro then make the DVD with iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. You can get all of this software for significantly cheaper than retail off ebay too.

in my old jmu roommate's case, it took him about 1.5 semesters. however, his SMAD professor nominated his documentary to be submitted for some national competition which he won $3k for. he's also working for some digital production company in nova that does lots of stuff for the caps, wizards, phoenix coyotes, and a few other sports teams and also a lot of stuff for extreme martial arts on discovery if anyone rememebers that show.

- Mike - 06-10-2004

oh yeah, i just need to go up to ny to pick up my rollbar, so i'll be having some in-car footage soon enough Smile

- BLINGMW - 06-10-2004

Xtreme drive to NY to pick up rollbar footage! Hot HOT!

Doesn't sound that interesting to me Mike.

- Mike - 06-10-2004

Ever seen Death Race 2000?

- ScottyB - 06-10-2004

we don't have to necessarily have dvd's right off the top, even though that would be super pimp. it would be cool to just have some more compilations like the jmu auto-x one that Channing was talking about.
