MM Classics - Who is into cars from the 50's and 60's? - Jeff - 03-16-2007 I have taken up an interest in cars from the 50's and 60's. I've been going through my grandfathers old files and pictures and I really think they are some of the most beautiful cars ever made. This past week I went to look at this 1956 DeSoto (anyone know that name? :wink ![]() ![]() http://www.donovansusedcars.com/vehicle ... 295797.htm It has a beautiful interior but the price needs to be more like $3,000. I am going to look at a 1958 Dodge sometime next week. All I know is it is a 10y/o restoration done at WW motorcars in Broadway. I know the guys down there and they do fantastic work. Guy wants $8,500...no idea what body style. Its a "green two-tone" according to the owner of WW. This is a 58 Dodge Coronet just to get an idea. They all look about the same, just the number of doors changes. ![]() Sylvia has always wanted a Forward Look fin car (Any Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, or Imperial from 1957 to 1960) That comes from before she met me...for the record. She is partial to the Fury/Belvedere/Savoy. You may know if from the film "Christine." ![]() The "Fury" she insists she wants was only available in Creme' with gold accents and a 413ci Golden Lion Hemi. They are getting rare and cannot be had in restored shape for under $20. So, does anyone else here dig on these cars? I've been listening to XM 50's on 5 for the past two weeks ![]() - ScottyB - 03-16-2007 i like them for how they look. i could never own one but to ride in one or look one over close up is a pleasure. - Jeff - 03-16-2007 413 Hemi is a pleasure! Centerplain "suicide" brakes however...they are not. Bendix disc conversion FTW!!! $1000 well spent. - HAULN-SS - 03-16-2007 I prefer stuff from the 40's instead, along the lines of ![]() but something like this would work pretty good for me too ![]() - Sijray21 - 03-16-2007 i'd never buy one or own one, but i like'm ![]() - Mike - 03-16-2007 i like cars from the 60s... ![]() - Apoc - 03-16-2007 I will own a '57 Corvette and/or an '59 Caddy before I die. I used to not like them at all but I've recently gotten into all things retro. More details on that to come. ![]() - .RJ - 03-16-2007 Apoc Wrote:I will own a '57 Corvette and/or an '59 Caddy before I die. No chance, buying an older car means you gotta turn wrenches on it ![]() - Mike - 03-16-2007 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:I will own a '57 Corvette and/or an '59 Caddy before I die. oh man.. i almost forgot... you missed the 4-hour rotor replacement by chris... true hilarity. - Apoc - 03-16-2007 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:I will own a '57 Corvette and/or an '59 Caddy before I die. Shows what you know. Anyone who can afford a '57 Corvette can afford to pay someone to wrench on it. ...and it was a 2 hour rotor replacement. Bitchface. - .RJ - 03-16-2007 Apoc Wrote:Shows what you know. Anyone who can afford a '57 Corvette can afford to pay someone to wrench on it. Then you'd have to put it on a trailer to take its somewhere when its busted. Double whammy. - WRXtranceformed - 03-16-2007 Yeah, I'm more into the 60-70s era, then even further back, like 40s-early 50s. Gogo Joe Rogan's Sick Fish ('70 custom Foose 'Cuda - 735hp / 540 ft lbs) ![]() - Apoc - 03-16-2007 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Shows what you know. Anyone who can afford a '57 Corvette can afford to pay someone to wrench on it. Uhhh no.... house call y0! Or just pay someone to come get it and then wrench it. Duhhhhhh.... - .RJ - 03-16-2007 Apoc Wrote:Or just pay someone to come get it and then wrench it. Duhhhhhh.... Well, if you pay someone to do everything else then why not ![]() - Apoc - 03-16-2007 Exactly my point. Anyway, I don't really see why you'd have to wrench a car that was properly sorted anyway. Yes, some things will go wrong here and here but it's not like I'm talking about buying a piece and fixing it up a la RJ. Contrary to popular belief I can handle the minor things and if something major goes wrong you take it to a shop. Problem solved. Old - RJ != busted - Dave - 03-16-2007 late 60s and up for me. Nothing else really appeals to me, yet. Step away from the money pit Jeff :-). - Sijray21 - 03-16-2007 ...copying Mike...mmmm - .RJ - 03-16-2007 Apoc Wrote:Old - RJ != busted The miata will be gone this weekend... leaving me with my two primary modes of transport both built in this decade. Imagine that. - Maengelito - 03-16-2007 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Old - RJ != busted ![]() i should've seen this coming with the burning down of the MM forum yesterday - Apoc - 03-16-2007 .RJ Wrote:Apoc Wrote:Old - RJ != busted You still have an old busted bike. Yes it runs, but it leaks gas so that doesn't count. |
