yay army surplus - ScottyB - 03-13-2007

thought you might want to see the manly surplus stuff i got off of ebay. i needed some rugged containers for tools and emergency supplies which i could carry in the trunk of each car. they also had to be watertight if i put oil quarts in them and they tipped over. found these 40mm grenade launcher ammo containers for about 30 shipped. sure, i could have bought rubbermaid, but come on!

they had been sitting out i guess. i hit the first one hard with some sandpaper and then went over it thick with satin green. i think i've been looking at Dave's DIY paint thread too much.

before/after:

i'm debating how much i want to refinish the second, there's some pretty cool original markings on these things

i'm pretty happy with them. they're ridiculously rugged, i'll have these forever....i reckon you could kill a man with a solid swing  even if they don't work out for car storage i'll find a use for them somehow.

Nice find Scotty.

These can usually be found on the cheap at gun shows. Next time I come across some I'll let you know.

that is truly awesome and a great idea, scotty!

Totally leave the other one, or make new stencils for it. Can you imagine the look on the coworker's faces if you have to pop the trunk open for something!

Nick, that's a great idea....never even thought of that.

thanks for the compliments guys. maybe i'll re-create the stencils for these...

Very nice Scotty.

sweet idea! I have to say though, I wouldn't change them at all. The all original one looks bad ass just as it is, and better than the refinished one IMHO.
