Corvette SS engine spyshots (and ensuing GMs wrath!) - WRXtranceformed - 02-24-2007 "It doesn't look like much, but the engine in this 2009 Corvette SS test mule could be the most powerful production V8 ever built by Chevrolet. Photographed by a Lufthansa shipping clerk in Michigan before the car was air freighted to Germany for testing, these spy photos appear to confirm some of the rumors that have been swirling around this new top-of-the-line Corvette for months." http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/2 ... panel..1.* GM apparently wasn't amused that the pics were leaked: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/22/ship ... te-ss-pic/ - ScottyB - 02-24-2007 the vette just keeps getting better. good luck working on that engine yourself....that engine bay is super cramped - Feersty - 02-24-2007 I wonder how much it will be when it comes out in the market? - WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2007 Feersty Wrote:I wonder how much it will be when it comes out in the market?Over 100k with dealer markups... without a doubt. That car will be more rare than Lamborghinis. - Mike - 02-25-2007 fuck.. there was a c6 z06 in my group this weekend. he spun in front of me coming out of oak tree and STILL caught and put maybe 15 lengths before the end of the straight... FUCK! - WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2007 Mike Wrote:fuck.. there was a c6 z06 in my group this weekend. he spun in front of me coming out of oak tree and STILL caught and put maybe 15 lengths before the end of the straight... FUCK! Ha ha nice. I wouldn't stress over it too much, that car vs your car in the straight aways is like Mike Tyson fighting an infant. (note the ninja Grandma's Boy reference  ) - Mike - 02-25-2007 i was going probably 70mph when i passed him... i hit 115 on that straight. sooo i'm not doing the math, but i went 70-115 in the time he went 0-something ridiculous (made up space AND put a ton of lengths between us). - BLINGMW - 02-25-2007 Mike Wrote:i was going probably 70mph when i passed him... i hit 115 on that straight. sooo i'm not doing the math, but i went 70-115 in the time he went 0-something ridiculous (made up space AND put a ton of lengths between us). yeah, that is actually pretty obscene - WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2007 Man, now imagine that car, with another 100+ horsepower and that's the "blue devil" - CaptainHenreh - 02-26-2007 Mike Wrote:i was going probably 70mph when i passed him... i hit 115 on that straight. sooo i'm not doing the math, but i went 70-115 in the time he went 0-something ridiculous (made up space AND put a ton of lengths between us). What an awesome math problem. "You pass a spinning Z06 in your Honda Civic Hatch while traveling 70 miles an hour. By the time you reach 115 miles an hour, you have been passed by the Z06. How bad was your ass owned?" - Mike - 02-26-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Mike Wrote:i was going probably 70mph when i passed him... i hit 115 on that straight. sooo i'm not doing the math, but i went 70-115 in the time he went 0-something ridiculous (made up space AND put a ton of lengths between us). More like "How much more money does he have than you?" Keep in mind, he spun. I think he had some stuff done to it too, that thing reached ludicrous speed in no time. - CaptainHenreh - 02-26-2007 Mike Wrote:More like "How much more money does he have than you?" Keep in mind, he spun. I think he had some stuff done to it too, that thing reached ludicrous speed in no time. 'twas a joke, Mike. Your ass got owned, even if it was just the wallet section. Anyway, I desperately fought the urge to hump his car when it was in tech. It was beautiful. It definitely wasn't stock, but I there were no obvious engine mods. I imagine the engine was stock. - Mike - 02-26-2007 no shit? it sounded mean as all f for the split second i could hear it. maybe just exhaust? any suspension and brake work? that f'r had more straight speed than the race prepped viper! - CaptainHenreh - 02-26-2007 Mike Wrote:no shit? it sounded mean as all f for the split second i could hear it. maybe just exhaust? any suspension and brake work? that f'r had more straight speed than the race prepped viper! Looking at the engine, it honestly looked stock. Even down to the stock "CORVETTE -- LS7 7.0" coil covers. But, yes...suspension work and brake work for sure. It was very low, even for a Vette, and the brake calipers didn't look like Z06 calipers. (Mostly, because they said "BREMBO" instead of "CORVETTE") Although the Z06 stock brakes are so huge I can't imagine needing an upgrade, there Are some out there. It was an insanely sexy car. I was going to try and get a ride if he'd take me, but I got busy, and I wasn't going to ask anyone on Sunday. - Mike - 02-26-2007 perusing the driver list to find a guy that needs to be reported (didn't belong in group 3) and found the z06 guy... says 600hp
- WRXtranceformed - 02-27-2007 You wouldn't be able to see head or cam work on that car, let alone a tune just by popping the hood. That's all it would take for that car to see another 90 bhp no problem. Irregardless, that car bone stock is, with a championship driver, a high 10 second car with sticky tires, whereas Mike's Civic is maybe mid 14s at best with the same driver? That's a huge margin of power. If he's adding another hundred horsepower to that it's not surprising what the outcome was in the straightaways... but I don't think that was ever in question =P That car is a Ferrari killer in stock form. With an exhaust, tune, a 100 dry shot and slicks that's a 9 second car no problem. It's definitely no slouch in the corners either, and it'll be interesting to see how the new Blue Devil stacks up overall performance wise. - HAULN-SS - 02-27-2007 Heh - the LS7 is an incredible engine, it will make just about anything pwn. This guy I know John Bzdel but a LS7 in his MCSS with headers and a cam, and it rolled an 11s on street tires with 20 year old suspension, and pulled over 600 on the dyno at the wheels. - CaptainHenreh - 02-27-2007 WRXtranceformed Wrote:You wouldn't be able to see head or cam work on that car, let alone a tune just by popping the hood. ![]() My point was that there was no enormous snail/blower/tuned by X/cam by Y stickers. Of course internals are a possibility. - WRXtranceformed - 02-27-2007 Exactly heh, you don't NEED an enormous blower to make a lot more power than stock on that car. The Ellis Juan is arguably the best production motor to extract more power from. - John - 02-28-2007 Mike Wrote:perusing the driver list to find a guy that needs to be reported (didn't belong in group 3) and found the z06 guy... says 600hp Was it the dark blue C6 Z06 with the elaborate cage? He's a driver in training, and he acknowledged that to me the other weekend. While he is still learning the car (and his own capabilities), he's still wicked fast around the track - but yes, I will acknowledge that it's more car than driver (as will he). |
