Pontiac G8 - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2007 ![]() Well, it looks like we can finally get a full look at the G8 What do you guys think? Rear drive, Six speed (Auto or Manual) a 3.6 Liter DOHC V6 (261hp, Shortstar, I think) base or a 6.0L V8 optional, limited slip available, Four wheel independent suspension, and what looks to be a decent interior: ![]() ![]() I'm not sure how I feel about that steering wheel, but I could probably live with it. Suspension sounds *very* adjustable: Quote:[The G8] employs a MacPherson strut design in the front and a four-link coil-over-shock design in the rear. Tuning is specific between the base and GT models, but both models use a direct-acting front stabilizer bar, decoupled rear stabilizer bar and lateral ball joints on the rear suspension. This system delivers increased lateral stiffness for enhanced handling. Of course, with this crowd, you're going to care if it's "ugly": ![]() ![]() ![]() *I* Don't think it's ugly, but apparently I'm a crosseyed colorblind nearsighted moonbat when it comes to judging MM's opinion of ugly. Now, at ~3900 lbs, it's a bit of a cow -- But I kind of like it. For a daily, it would be wickedly sweet. It weighs no more than a CTS, and will be significantly cheaper. Certainly a viable competitor to the G35 sedan and similar. Lord knows I'd take one over an Avalon, esp when the "Buick" sedan comes out. If they can spruce up the interior for the new Buick Lucerne, they might actually have something. Maybe GM is finally going to make cars people WANT to buy? The Solstice, CTS, now this? - Goodspeed - 02-07-2007 I take it this is the re-skinned Holden Commodore? Well, they butchered it as I knew they would...the original Holden looks eleventy billion times better, but I guess with the optional V8 who cares. Now we just have to see how it sells. **See my Commodore thread with pics here http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5564 - .RJ - 02-07-2007 As long as the bean counters dont neuter it, it could be a good seller. I like it. - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2007 The only change is the grill and front bumper. I mean yeah, the Commodore looks better from the front, but they *do* have to brand it. They've got alot invested in that Pontiac double-kidney-not-a-bmw front end, and they still have to use this platform for a Cadillac, Opel, Buick, and a Chevy. I understand why they didn't just slap a Pontiac badge on the Holden. To quote Hunter: Hunter Wrote:Yea, I do hope they realize that the process of "turning it into a pontiac" that they go through is the same as "sucking everything exciting out of a car" (I some how doubt the muscular body work will be left alone.) It looks to me like they molested it as little as possible, especially with the important bits. - ScottyB - 02-07-2007 i think it's attractive and will be a promising addition to the line-up...but you know full well it'll be a love it/hate it car. 3900 pounds though....mercy - Goodspeed - 02-07-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:The only change is the grill and front bumper. Which to me is the best looking part of the original car....I would've left the lower front valence alone, and the Pontiac kidney grilles are way too big and ugly...whereas the original was blunt and clean, on the Pontiac its all cluttered up and ugly. - .RJ - 02-07-2007 Rex's head asploded all over the wall when I agreed with him on a vehicle's looks. - HAULN-SS - 02-07-2007 I like it. I think it looks like an Evo in that first picture though. I also think maybe the fenders are flared a bit too mcuh in the front - from ground level in teh front it looks almost like a mini FWD SUV - HAULN-SS - 02-07-2007 and man...just to comment - GM really hit the nail on the head with the LS6/LS2 motors apparently. that shit's everywhere. I'm just glad to see RWD V8's in the world again..the 90's sucked without them. - .RJ - 02-07-2007 HAULN-SS Wrote:I also think maybe the fenders are flared a bit too mcuh in the front No such thing ![]() It aint a 70's monte carlo! ![]() - HAULN-SS - 02-07-2007 Lol, it it were, the flares would be too small! ![]() thankfully neither of my MC's look like this! - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2007 .RJ Wrote:Rex's head asploded all over the wall when I agreed with him on a vehicle's looks. I'm still waiting for Mike to come in with "I hate it because it's ugly, and I have no concern for what is under the hood, or which wheels do the motivating." Although, I sort of agree with Derek. That front-on view does something weird to the car, makes it look like it's got alot of ground clearance but I think it might just be the angle. - Nis01 - 02-07-2007 Reminds me a lot of the Altima SE-R in appearance. ![]() - Mike - 02-07-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Rex's head asploded all over the wall when I agreed with him on a vehicle's looks. rear end shouts galanty, sides shout cts-v, front shouts gto, wheels shout altima se-r. it's better than the gto, but still nothing to "ooh and ahh" at without peeking under the hood. i'm curious to see where the price falls compared to the cts-v, which i think looks a lot better. the grille is noticeably better looking, it reminds me of pontiacs of old. please forgive me for caring what a car looks like... haven't we already concluded that there is no market for new cars that go like stink, but look like doodoo? i guess i'm not alone in how i feel, eh? everyone hurray gm! they can put the same big motor in any car and it'll go fast! yay for breaking new ground! the motor is great and all, but i think they're saturating their own market with the addition of the g8. - Andy - 02-07-2007 Everything is kosher except the nostrils and weight. R&T also says that the interior isn't going to be the ones in the pic and the six speed won't be available at launch. - ScottyB - 02-07-2007 Shea hit the nail on the head, i knew the G8 looked familiar. i like altimas though - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-07-2007 Actually I Really like the car, if it comes unmolested thats a serious competitor. Lose just 300 pounds in it and I would consider that EASILY over a CTS, G35, Legacy.... - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2007 Andy Wrote:Everything is kosher except the nostrils and weight. R&T also says that the interior isn't going to be the ones in the pic and the six speed won't be available at launch. I can't imagine the Interior is going to change *that* much. I mean, except for the tan leather dash, it looks pretty production. And as far as the six speed goes, at least they're going to offer a manual trans, unlike other cars. *coughchargercough* I'm just hoping that the six speed manual Aisin will be available in the V6. - NTIman - 02-07-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:Which to me is the best looking part of the original car....I would've left the lower front valence alone, and the Pontiac kidney grilles are way too big and ugly...whereas the original was blunt and clean, on the Pontiac its all cluttered up and ugly. Keep in mind that the car is being sold as a Pontiac. Like it or not, the Pontiac kidney grilles aren't going to go away any time soon. As ugly as it may be, I'm glad someone can stick with something that defines their style. - Feersty - 02-07-2007 I like it a lot and looking at the front end reminds of a 335i. As least it has some of the Commodore accents still there. That rear end is something to get used to but I definitely would take a second look at it. For those comparing to Cadillac. Sounds like CTS territory and clearly not CTS-V territory. |
