Lexus LF-A - sk24iam - 01-19-2007

Looks like a cool car if it Toyota brings it to production...

Quote:"Lexus recycles" is a headline you'd be more likely to see on our sister-site Autoblog Green, but we're not talking about production materials or old cars...we're talking concept cars here. Having shown the LF-A concept car here in Detroit two years ago at the 2005 NAIAS, Toyota's premium brand reworked it and brought it back to share the stage with the pre-production IS-F performance sedan at their Detroit press conference.

The LF-A is a front-engined supercar with a 500-horsepower V10. The 2007 version has some revised styling; the front end, in particular, is more curvaceous and enticing than the 2005 show car on which it's based.

Will Toyota give it the green light for production? Nothing's confirmed, but the signs are pointing in the right direction. Lexus revealed that they've been conducting engineering analyses on the car. Test mules have been spotted undergoing road testing, and at the press conference, Lexus executives suggested it could be the next F model to join their new performance line-up alongside the IS-F.

Does the world need another supercar? No, not really. Do we want one? Oh yes, yes we do.

- Evan - 01-19-2007

I like it a lot!
Except for those asinie air intakes up high on the rear quarter. Whats that for, to cool your trunk?

- ScottyB - 01-19-2007

neat lines but i bet it will come with an automatic no matter what :?

- Feersty - 01-19-2007

Curves are a little extremo, but I like it.

It was speculated to be until it got the official Lexus badge attached to it. However a few months ago a "mini" LF-A was spotted around the Nurburgring and no one knew what it was...that is now the Toyota FT-HS concept that will most likely be the next Supra...a few top American and Japanese Toyota execs let it slip that a new Supra is coming. Either way I love both these concepts and I hope both make it into production. Everyone swore a new Supra/Toyota performance car would never come, but I knew with the introduction of the '08 R35 Skyline, Toyota would have to grow a sack again and put one into production.

I'm guessing the air flows directly through to the vents under the tail lights. Downforce without a spoiler maybe?

- Dave - 01-19-2007

if you calm the front end down just a weee bit, get rid of the funky rear vents, and put a normal motor in it, that would be a really neat car. Too bad it will never come to fruition, since Toyota's sack was cut off and thrown in the river in the late 90s.

i think it looks pretty sharp. i just read an article on this car. its a toyota hybrid synergy drive with a 300hp 3.5L V6 and 100hp electric motor. those vents are to cool the batteries apparently

Sources within Lexus are stating 550+ hp with a target weight under 3000 lbs; price around 150-175k. I think it looks gorgeous (front half reminds me of the 2nd gen 300ZX), and I can't wait to see the production version soon.

My take on it: Lexus has been around for just 18 years, and yet they have risen to the top of the luxury car segment in such a short time. They are smart, and rarely are their estimated figures (HP, weight) far from the truth. Will it sell? Perhaps....it sounds like you will get hypercar performance for less than the price of the base Ferrari. You don't achieve Lexus-like success without fully knowing your market, so this one may surprise you. At the very least, it'll be a damn good halo car.

Welp, you lost me.

- HAULN-SS - 06-13-2007

Yeah, same here. Why can't any japanese car companys put out a car with more than 400HP and not fuck it up by pricing it so ridiculous?

- ScottyB - 06-13-2007

is it just more or is the fitment around the headlights all jacked up? maybe it's a pre-production thing.

- D_Eclipse9916 - 06-13-2007

Why does that thing remind me of an aztec? That thing is absolutely hideous, you couldnt have me buy that at 30,000.

- Andy - 06-13-2007

Keep it mind that it's has body cladding up the ass so it's only the silohuette that is distinguisable.

In this case, the price is in no way rediculous for what you would be getting. Make no mistake, Lexus isn't going for the 25-35 year old market and screwing up royally in the process...they are building an all out supercar for.....a supercar price. Its like asking for the base Ferrari to be in the 30k dollar range.
