I bid my farewell... - John - 01-19-2007

After many months of being dicked around by my company and dickteased with other solicitiations of visions of San Diego, I have finally reached a watershed moment. As many of you know, I've sort of disappeared of the face of the planet being that I have been on the fence with my future. So...

I will be accepting a management position with a current competitor in San Diego, starting 2/19. Gone will be the days of me living out of suitcases and off of people's couches / extra bedrooms (been this way since 8/1). I leave behind good friends, an environment I've known almost all my life, great work environment with lots of upward mobility, and a new project that I just started to manage for greener pastures. Sometimes the need for a fresh environment with a little risk (and perfect weather) outweighs the comforts of the status quo.

Enter my new opportunity with lots of unknowns (but not without an oceanview office on Coronado) - yet challenges that I yearn for. I acknowledge that my departure will sour some of my current professional relationships, but I know that if worse comes to worse, I can always come back.

My last event will likely be the TZC weekend at VIR 2/10-2/11 - unfortunatley, I do not think I will be able to make the NASA event the following weekend (but who knows). For those of you that I know - I'd like to catch you all before I leave for the left coast...

- Maengelito - 01-19-2007

shit john, good luck on the west side. i'll definitely have to make it out to san diego. hopefully you can make it out to VIR for the nasa weekend so we can make you chug a beer with us.

Excellent man, good luck with your career move. Cali is a great place to be, just be careful of police pulling you over to check for catalytic converters / CAIs and of course watch out for those pesky earthquakes!

- BLINGMW - 01-19-2007

Good luck to you sir!

Now we have someone to visit out there! 8)

- ScottyB - 01-19-2007

i wish you the best John. take advantage of all Cali has and make sure to piss us off by telling us how great Hwy. 1 and buttonwillow/sears point/laguna seca are!

durrrrr Confusedlaps head:

well its kinda hard keeping track of everyone from down here dammit!

- Hunter - 01-19-2007

I hear nothing but great things about living in san diego (except the cost of living), I'm sure you two will love it there. I'm know you'll be missed at all future track events, so you should probably keep a car he and fly back for every nasa event.

PS. turn into a regular at laguna seca.

Hunter Wrote:(except the cost of living)

Its cheaper than living in arlington.

The "socal is too expensive for anyone to live" is just a propogated myth. The house prices there are a little more expensive but thats it - if you're not buying a place its not really any more expensive, take a look for housing on Craigslist there's plenty available. NoVa is just as expensive, and if you're ok with that, then going to the west siiiiiiide is no different.

- John - 01-19-2007

The real estate market over there is much more depressed than here and rent is cheaper than DC. Considering how much rent has skyrocketed here (20% in many places), only places that out-do NoVA/DC's cost-of-living are Honolulu, NY, and SF. Gas and taxes are more expensive than NoVA, however, in the end it all balances out to be about the same.

- Andy - 01-19-2007

Good luck in your new adventures, John.

Let's not forget the fantastic weather you're going to be enjoying year round.

- John - 01-19-2007

Yes, that and never having to turn on your A/C or heating... bueno!

- .paul - 01-19-2007

congrats john - i know you have been talking about it for a while - i would like to deffly catch up and grab a brew before you go.

- GQROB - 01-19-2007

Have fun in SD.
I lived ther for seven years and wish I had stayed.

- Mike - 01-19-2007

fuck! i'll miss seeing you randomly across arlington once every few months Tongue

good luck, dude. you'll love it out there. i'll be sure to say "hey" if i'm ever out that way.

- Evan - 01-19-2007

Good luck John!

- Feersty - 01-19-2007

Good Luck man, thanks for your resume help.

- Sijray21 - 01-19-2007

have fun out there man - sounds like a life shift for a good change, i know you'll have a blast out there.

- John - 01-19-2007

Thanks guys... I guess it's a good thing to know that you're going to be missed by work when you get messages from your managing director that say "you better not bone me", "I considered us attached as we grew together", "you are an ahole, but i still love you", and best yet "you are a gay, i am ripped!" I will miss the work environment here...
