Pics and ramblings from engine removal - Steve85 - 01-09-2007 I am getting ready for the 434 (which I picked up Monday) so I had to get that pesky little 408 out of the way. In this pic you will see a common problem with C4's bottom breathing. Just about everything is sucked up and finds a home between the condenser and radiator. In this pic the condensor has been replaced by an oil cooler (just this august) and the radiator fits just this side of that. This next pic shows one the issues I have battled since day one...sucking A LOT of oil through the crankcase ventilation system. Several issues were in play and with a new motor o nthe way I pretty much let it go. Here's what happens inside when you let that go... And here we have the results of going into the parking garage at JMU. Those damn speed bumps are high and peaky. I would literally barely roll over (pissing off everyone behind me). I have the pan off now and the pick-up was pretty much mashed up against the floor of the pan. I am suing the winchester radio station for playing Christina Agoolera and Bo "Baby" Bice back to back while I was under the car removing the exhaust, C-beam, driveshaft, and bellhousing bolts. They inflicted undo mental anguish while I was in a vulnerable position. For that they shall pay... I am currently putting my fuel system together and planning for the remote oil cooler. The new block is really for sprint cars and has no oil filter mount despite being a wet sump or in-pan oil pump. - ScottyB - 01-09-2007 damn i always wondered about those speed bumps, even with my 4x4 accord i'd roll over pretty slow. cool project! sounds like it will be an all around, all purpose ass kicking machine. - WRXtranceformed - 01-15-2007 Wow that sucks =( I never had any problems rolling over those in my STi, and it's slammed pretty low. My boss has a built solid roller 434 in his C4 and he too was having problems with oil in his crankcase breather. I think he ended up doing some kind of custom catch can setup and it helped out. Good luck on the rest of your build! - Steve85 - 01-18-2007 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Wow that sucks =( I never had any problems rolling over those in my STi, and it's slammed pretty low. Yeah I saw him posting about it on the other forum and he seems to be having good luck with it. When we talking at an event I think he said he was doing a quart every couple hundred miles or something ridiculous like that. I will likely have to come up with something as well. I measured the new Canton road race pan (nice piece, heavy though) and it is an 1" plus shorter than the Moroso. The Canton is designed for the C4 whereas the Moroso was a very generic SBC pan, no baffles or windage tray. It was just too deep for a lowered C4. I will continue to park in R1. or is 2 across port republic :?: |
