Oof! Coworker is getting one of these... - Mike - 01-05-2007

guy used to race one of those spec formula classes in SCCA, currently drives a white e36 m3, lowered w/ exhaust... older guy, too.

shit, i can't wait for a ride.

Looks like a pretty nice kit. Did he say how much it was?

Its odd that they use a wrx rear end and suspension. Id have to assume its a packaging thing.

- Mike - 01-05-2007

They go for $35k new... I'm not gonna ask him how much he's paying used unless he wants to offer the info up.

- CaptainHenreh - 01-05-2007

That's pretty cool.
I always thought a Brunton Superstalker would be the shit:

someone in cville has had their ad in the local newspaper for like close to two years now for their super 7 replica with the 300hp rx-7 turbo rotary in it. that same person was selling a track ready miata which was only in the paper for like a couple of weeks. i've thought for the past two years to be "interested" in buying it just to go test drive it

- Apoc - 01-05-2007

Mean I freaking love the Lotus 7. I half-heartedly looked into a Stalker a few weeks back but then I realized that A) I don't have that much cash to burn and B) I'm pretty lazy. One day, I will own one.

your coworkers are pretty damn cool, Mike.

fixed.

Hrm, mid 12s at ~1200lbs. Not too bad, but not overly impressive for how light that is. I'm sure that thing handles better than it accelerates.

If it was my car, I'd put the supercharged Honda motor that the Atom has in it. That thing would pull like a mfer.

It probably hits an aerodynamic brick wall at 110mph.

you say that like it's a bad thing

hey at least he's not spending his money on some blingy monstrosity like an escalade or G-wagon or something.

sheer numbers can only take you so far. real world performance is worth a lot more in my book.

i can scare myself in a stock s2k... why would i need more than that?

That's true, I guess speed / acceleration is relative to the driver's experience with it. I'm a little desensitized to it I guess

Honestly I dont think the 1/4 miles would really be any different.

you can put as much power as you want in your car, but i'm certain you can't use it :jab: a "novice" driver with more than 200hp is really only benefiting on the internet.

Are you talking about me, or just anyone in general?

RJ, The difference in acceleration between 200 and 300 horsepower in that car would be huge, assuming you've got sticky tires and a driver who's practiced with that car a little. I wouldn't be surprised if you shaved off half a second or more and added another 5+mph to that trap speed.

I'm telling you, in a car like that, its not. Those cars have really awful aerodynamics and once you get up to 100mph they kinda fall flat on their face.

And gaining 0.5 seconds in 1/4 mile time for a 50% increase in power seems like a pretty poor use of the HP.

- Mike - 01-05-2007

you, and people in general Smile i'll take it back if i ever see you at the track.

That's the way all drag racing goes sadly. In RWD or FWD cars a lot of the 1/4 times have to do a lot with the suspension setup too... if that thing isn't set up for drag racing it's going to struggle off the line. There are 280rwhp cars running in the low 12s, it just takes a lot of weight reduction and a dialed in suspension.

A half a second is quite a bit of a reduction in drag racing however, and a 12.0 car is noticeably faster and pulls noticeably harder than a car that runs in the mid 12s. How do I know? I've been in and driven both on the street.

Mike... whatever dude Tongue You'll never see this particular car at a track for fear of breaking something that I need to sell, but hopefully the next one that I pick up I can get out to some events. I do still owe you a ride on the street though, so you can find out whether or not I can "use" all that power

- Mike - 01-05-2007

i don't wanna die.
