- Andy - 12-15-2006 I'm sure they'll rename it to something retro. - white_2kgt - 12-15-2006 mustang will nevera die, and they had better take that damn horse on the front of that POS if they decide to make it. - CaptainHenreh - 12-15-2006 Andy Wrote:I'm sure they'll rename it to something retro. They're not going to get rid of the Mustang. My guess is we'll see a Magnum-esque "Mustang" named something else. My bet is 'Falcon'. It'd be pretty sweet. I welcome our new six speed V8 IRS 4 door overlords. - Andy - 12-15-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Andy Wrote:I'm sure they'll rename it to something retro. What I meant was that they would rename that wagon monstrosity some retro and not use the Mustang name. Hell, they've already used the fairlane name for something that looks nothing like a fairlane. - CaptainHenreh - 12-15-2006 Well, what people always forget is that the "new" Mustang is just based off the Lincoln LS platform, which *gasp!* has four doors! A bunch of people are freakin' out about this and I don't see the BFD. - Andy - 12-15-2006 Platform sharing is fine but watering down a name cherished by mullets around the world is not cool. IMO, there shouldn't even be a V6 mustang. Mustangs should only come in two flavors, fast and effing fast e.g. Corvette. - white_2kgt - 12-15-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Well, what people always forget is that the "new" Mustang is just based off the Lincoln LS platform, which *gasp!* has four doors! no, what people forget is AT FIRST ford was going to make the new mustang out of the LS platform (and call it DEW Light), then they decided not to and built a whole new platform for the mustang. The S197 is built off the D2C platform D-Class, 2door coupe, which came from Mazda, the LS uses the DEW98 platform (as does the T-Bird and Jag SType). - white_2kgt - 12-15-2006 Andy Wrote:Platform sharing is fine but watering down a name cherished by mullets around the world is not cool. Ford makes more money off the base than they do the GT or the 'Cobra', and they sell more, which allows them to continue making them. Since the bodies/suspension are almost the same, the aftermarket can also afford to pump R&D into parts b/c they have a wider group of people to sell the parts to. For one, I am VERY happy ford continues to make the v6 and that ford used the same platform from 79-04, just look at the aftermarket for a mustang, there isn't a single other car out there that has such a large aftermarket specific to it. - CaptainHenreh - 12-15-2006 white_2kgt Wrote:The S197 is built off the D2C platform D-Class, 2door coupe, which came from Mazda, the LS uses the DEW98 platform (as does the T-Bird and Jag SType). Well, whatever, my point is that a 4 door Mustang platform isn't the end of the world. The LS platform is a good one, and I think if Ford had offered the LSV8 in a manual transmission they would have had a killer on their hands. - white_2kgt - 12-15-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Well, whatever, my point is that a 4 door Mustang platform isn't the end of the world. But that's what I'm sayin', there's no effin way that Ford will have a four door mustang. They might have a thing based on the mustang platform with four doors, but there's no way it'll be a four door mustang. Nobody doesn't buy an Audi TT because it shares a platform with the VW Beetle. Ok, well, maybe me but I have other reasons as well.. - Jeff - 12-15-2006 A friend of mine has a 65 Falcon Wagon with a 289....its cool as shit. I think a v8 RWD wagon is a sorely missed auto. Chevy needs to do something cool with the nomad concept which is of course, a 2dr wagon. They should do the "Falcon" as a 2 or 4 dr. That would be sweet. - G.Irish - 12-15-2006 Why Colonel Angus, you do have a point. Btw Rex I think your rendition was even better than SNL's. - CaptainHenreh - 12-15-2006 G.Irish Wrote:Why Colonel Angus, you do have a point. *bows* - Jeff - 12-15-2006 When Rex said "Ahhh yess....the incident at Big Beaver...12 men were lost" I about fell on the floor. - Hunter - 12-15-2006 I guess ford checks the MM message board often http://www.cnn.com/2006/AUTOS/12/15/for ... index.html Quote:Ford will unveil a concept car called "The Interceptor" at the Detroit Auto Show in January. That car will be based on the Mustang's rear-wheel-drive architecture but it will not be a Mustang, the company emphasized in its announcement. so they'll do exactly what you guys just said, build a 4 door mustang concept and just give it a different name. - Ginger - 12-15-2006 TurboOmni08 Wrote:When Rex said "Ahhh yess....the incident at Big Beaver...12 men were lost" I about fell on the floor.Rex was in rare form; I was incredibly impressed by his, uhm, performance
