Instrument Junkies - Help me Out - Ginger - 12-12-2006 OK - I've recently had a bit of a renewal in my interest for playing music... and all gidgets related. I remember seeing, a few years ago, a company that made very slim line acoustic and acoustic electric guitars almost exclusively... it seemed like it was kind of their signature thing. Can anybody help me out with a name? I wish I could describe the idea more, but I think if I could I would have found them again by now. The sound, IIRC, was also sort of unique. - Jeff - 12-12-2006 Takamine? They have a series of thinlines that are supposed to be super nice. EDIT- Also, Ovation are the round backed ones... - NTIman - 12-12-2006 You may be thinking of Ovation, but I'm not sure. Also, Fender made acoustic electric thinlines in the shape of the stratocaster and telecaster. - Ginger - 12-12-2006 Thank you! I don't recall what I was thinking of being round backed. I'll keep up the search - don't hesistate to post more if you can think of them, though. - Nis01 - 12-12-2006 Not sure about slimline... but as far as quality sound for the money, I love my Takamine. Very unique sound, I like it more than my Taylor at times. - Hunter - 12-12-2006 Ovations are nice guitars, but make sure you play it before you buy one. I for one am not a big fan of the curved back acoustic guitars that they sell, they just seem to slip off your leg. I've had a takamine classical acoustic for about 7 years and couldnt be happier with it. If something happened to it I'd buy another one in a second. - HAULN-SS - 12-12-2006 If you're talking about electrics, the Ibanez S-series guitars are where it's at. They've got incredibly fast necks and are slimed down to weigh less. And, just to note, ive never seen a plastic backed acoustic that could touch the sound of a traditional acoustic. Also, not sure what you want to play, but Taylors and Takamine's have a really rich high sound, but if you want any bass at all, get a Martin. Ive got two Martins and a Yamaha (The yamaha isnt bad for the cost, either), and I've played lots of taylors, alvarez, takamine, etc....just like the Martin sound best...it's just so loud...awesome for campfire jamming and such. - HAULN-SS - 12-12-2006 also, whatever you do, play it before you buy it. a lot of thinline guitars sound "tinny" - Ginger - 12-13-2006 Well, on a whim I plugged a name that I thought might have been 'it' into google images. Now, bear in mind I haven't been able to remember this company for, say, at least the past 3 years. Well, got it! They were Carvin acoustic electrics. Now I want an AC40 bass since i don't plug in my j-bass hardly at all, and something like an AC175 to fool around on thin strings with. Something about the Carvin design turns me on in general, I'm seeing. The CT series guitars are just classy looking and their regular electric bass lineup reminds me a lot of the warwick line. A Modulus Flea bass would be nice, too. I saw one of the AC175 looking models in this gorgeous blue once... and it did me in.
