do any of you guys get migraines - ScottyB - 12-11-2006 any good advice on dealing with them? treating them? for the past year or two i've been getting them far worse than normal for me. it's always been like 1 or 2 a year up until recently. some people deal well with them, but for me i'm literally crippled....can't think clearly, can't eat, can't deal with light or noise, etc. my only option is to just curl up in the fetal position and go to sleep anyway, not trying to have a pity-party but i had a killer one today where i had to leave work after getting sick, and after taking Imitrex - which only took the edge off - i'm getting tired of these things running my life when they hit. i'm reading a pretty good book called "Heal your headache" that has some great advice on the triggers of them, but the only thing i've figured out so far that triggers my migraines is stress...not like i, or anyone for that matter, can do much about that. - Feersty - 12-11-2006 A dark room with a cold washcloth on your head. Do you stare at a computer all day? - ScottyB - 12-11-2006 Feersty Wrote:A dark room with a cold washcloth on your head. Do you stare at a computer all day? i do, but i don't think it has ever caused one for me. this one today literally started the minute i rolled out of bed. great way to start a monday - Evan - 12-11-2006 stress triggered migraines can be helped with muscle relaxation. neckrub and headrub. tried that at all? put wifey to work

- Andy - 12-11-2006 I struggled with migraines for a while in college. I actually had to take a bunch of incompletes one year cause I missed a month of school. I laid in bed, complete darkness and earplugs before it went away. I pushed myself really hard in school and never slept. That last episode was caused by sleeping only a hour or 2 a night for a few weeks. I haven't had one since cause I get 8 hours a night, no matter what. Unless I get dragged out to the bar every once in a blue moon or track weekend. I always eat well and never do the eat on the go thing. Take care of all or most of my affairs early on so I'm not busting my ass at the last minute and stressing myself out. Lastly, I don't stress out about stuff anymore. Ironically enough, I'm just back from working 32 hours straight to make our client's deadline and ate nothing but fast food and a metric assload of coffee. But this doesn't and shouldn't happen too often. - ScottyB - 12-11-2006 damn Andy you don't mess around with work! i can relate a bit though with my college activities, i used to get no sleep, sloth around until the last minute and then bust my ass, and of couse eating terrible food on top of that and i was getting them more and more. i'm getting alot better about many of those aspects but it seems i'm still missing some things because i get them at the weirdest times. - white_2kgt - 12-11-2006 I started getting them Senior year in high school and got on average one a week up until this Feb. Since then I have gotten 3-4. I have no idea what made them stop. The only thing I found is if I had to much salt in my diet I would start to get a headache, so I'd eat a few twinkies and the pain would start to go away. I also ID'd an allergy to Budweiser beer, appearenly I'm allergic to Beachwood and it would trigger a migraine. When I'd get a headache nothing would short of codeine, but since my mother died of liver problems I figure better not push it to hard, so for the most part I went to bed for 6hrs at a time until it went away, no food, no light, no TV, nothing, it sucked, a LOT. |
