Mailing Tires... - .RJ - 12-10-2006
And why I hate doing it. All of the parts I kept and sold off of the race car has been local pickup, which is much easier - but one set of tires I had to mail. So, I tape the tires in pairs, put big shipping labels on them and take them to the post office which was pretty busy this time of year on a saturday.
There was a post office employee roaming the line asking if people needed anything. insurance forms, stamps, etc and her jaw drops and she stares at me when i come in and get in line with my 4 tires.
Lady: "uhm... are you mailing those"
RJ: "thats the idea"
Lady: "i've never seen that before"
RJ: "you've never seen 4 tires before?"
Lady: "uhm... can you do that?"
RJ: "yes, i do this alot - is there a problem?"
She sort of huffs at me and walks off. Then she asks me to set them in the corner so they are out of the way until I get to the end of the line - I was ok with that, and they were out of the way and I dont have to keep moving them with me. Then some other customer walked up to them and stared for a solid 2 minutes. Poked at them. Walked aroundthe tires and stared some more. Then went and got an employee and said "can you mail those things here?" They're tires... its not like I'm mailing a giant dildo with a shipping label on it.

people really do not understand tires... at all... the common person has a really difficult time even grasping the difference between a wheel and a hubcap. "yes, there is an actual wheel under that."
fedex hasn't given me much trouble other than asking me to carry them to the back myself
