The new place - HAULN-SS - 12-09-2006

So, who all is in Northern Va actually? Anyhow, move-in is Jan 7th I believe, assuming I pass all my final exams.

Lemme know if you want to get a beer. I have a roommmate and she is from manassas, so I will hopefully get to know the areas pretty quick, but thats really about the only person I KNOW know up there.

btw Lee, obviously ended up renting...couldnt get anything to work out to be able to get what I needed to buy, so figure I'll rent for a year and try again.

- WRXtranceformed - 12-09-2006

Nice dude, what was holding you back.. initial investment, closing costs, etc?

Those are the two reasons I'm holding off until this time next year. If your rent isn't too bad, you should be able to put away a good bit of money so you can give it a go next year ^_^

Let me know if you need any more help with finances or anything else about the new home buying process. I'm pretty objective, even for someone who is so loyal to his company =D

- Feersty - 12-09-2006

I am in Springfield about 30 minutes from you.

- HAULN-SS - 12-09-2006

Well, basically, in order to have the roommate I have now, I wouldnt be able to afford anything close enough in (she didnt want to be out any further than we are now, basically). And I didnt want to go without a roommate, cause that would have helped a lot on the monthly. I should be able to put back some this year, rent's not going to be too bad for me since i Have a roommate.

Good plan =) You've got plenty of time.

- HAULN-SS - 12-09-2006

Yeah, I thought so. I mean, the realtor was basically saying "Well, you can buy the 1/2br condo, in the right location, with no garage, or you can buy this 2br Townhouse WITH garage, but 30 - 50 miles away.

No, if I get decent pay increases maybe 26 or 27.

- Mike - 12-09-2006

they going to double your pay? Even then it will still be tough to buy a place in NOVA.

- Apoc - 12-09-2006

I live/work about 5 miles from there but be careful... you're dangerously close to no-man's land (Loudoun County)

note: that's sarcasm people, since it's not always clear in my posts Tongue

- HAULN-SS - 12-09-2006

yikes..mormons!

- WRXtranceformed - 12-09-2006

Mormon chicks rule!

Rob, I could definitely run your numbers, but I don't really need to do that to tell you that you might have to hold out for a while if you're trying to buy a place near where you are now. Your best bet is to put as much money aside as you can over the next several years... unless you don't mind living further away from work.

Question for you Lee, right off. Where are there 2 bedroom places to buy that are $150,000?

- Mike - 12-09-2006

west virginia, winchester, maybe north of richmond. you may actually qualify for low income housing...

Yep, what he said  Harrisonburg actually has pretty reasonable house prices as well, but that's way too far.
