Aww Skeet Skeet? MM 33W drive/Skeet Shooting competition! - Jeff - 12-02-2006

Nick and I have made several trips over to the 33 range and we thought it might be fun to bring MM along!

The idea: Combine a traditional MM scenic drive with a skeet shooting competition on the 33w rife range in West Virginia.

The time: After x-mas break. Those with guns, bring them back with you. It will be cold, but you will want the jacket anyway to cushion the recoil!

The most basic rules-
1. Bring your own gun if you can! It should be either 12 or 20 ga. and in good working order. Any style of shotgun is fine.
2. Bring your own ammo...100 rounds of 12 is $15 at Walmart. Must be number 8 shot "target/field" Federal or Winchester.
3. Your car must be able to make it to the range. The Sebring makes it if I go slow. The van can get to it going 35mph...
4. $2 entry fee to cover cost of clays.

We thought this would be a fun way to get MM members out and doing new things. We have possibly two shotguns that could be used as loans. We are shooting two at a time so even if you don't have a gun of your own, just buy some ammo and you can compete!

This at this point is a gauging interest thread, if we get at least 5 its gonna be a go. Nick and I made a deal that if we could get 5 to roll we would buy a thrower so the clays would be consistent. We will be posting up the rules and how it will be laid out if we get interest. Any feedback would be great!

The question is will you be able to hit shit? I think this could be a ton of fun...I just hope a few others have shoties they can bring...mine will hate me after 200 rounds each!

Doubtful, but I'd love to give it a shot (pun intended). I'd need to borrow/use someone elses gun, the only experience I have had being target practice with various full auto weapons

shooting at animals > skeet shooting. still is a fun idea we should def. do.

im game, is there a cost? you have your own thrower? can my car make it to the range as far as the driveway to it, huge ruts, potholes, etc...

the access road is pretty rugged. you will just have to take a scouting trip, or be ok with possibly parking your car at the entrance and riding in with someone else. last i was there, i would say any car with under 4-5 inches of clearance is toast.

Joan and I would be interested depending on date. We'd also need to borrow a gun.

when is this going down? I have a bunch of guns but I'd need to get them from my dads after christmas

We said $2 for clays...we figure before the competition there will be a practice session so we will need a couple hundred clays. 2 people can use 100 rounds (and 90 clays) in about an hour. You also need to get your own ammo, depending how much practicing and shooting after the competition you could split a box with someone.

white97dsm Wrote:you have your own thrower?
It will be provided. There will be at least two, so we could have at least 3 people shooting during the practice.

You would need to go super slow. There is one water break cut in the road a car like your might have a problem with, but even with that you outta be able to get there with caution. We saw an A4 go past up to the rifle range when we were there the other day. The road is pretty shitty, I wouldn't wash your car before going!

I will be sometime in January or February. Grab a shotgun while you are there!

Also, if anyone out there has an extra gun or wouldn't mind sharing theirs with others please post!

- JustinG - 12-03-2006

OK, ill just get my roomate to drive, im sure he will wanna go, as well as a few more of my friends if that cool and we dont wanna make this a strictly MM event, plus if my roomie goes its an extra shotgun to use. also i suggest to those who havent shot a shotgun before, shoot at a bottle or something before shooting at the clays to get used to the kick of a shotgun.

- lyltoy - 12-03-2006

i'd be down, sounds like a fun idea

- Jeff - 12-03-2006

Anyone who WOULD go put your name on the list!! This is just a starter thread, once we figure the date the registration will be more final.

- JustinG - 12-04-2006

i registered, but also have +2

- Mike - 12-04-2006

if need be, i'll consider buying a gun.

- white_2kgt - 12-04-2006

Is this shotgun only range or can we bring pistols and rifles for target practice? I have a few boxes of .270 rounds from last season that needs using up.

- Mike - 12-04-2006

it is an everything range.

- Maengelito - 12-04-2006

i've never shot skeet skeet before, so i'd love to try it if someone would be willing to teach me. needless to say, i dont have any guns, and i've only fired a glock through one mag.
