What's comparable to the Azenis? - Andy - 11-21-2006 I was about to place an order for some Falken Azenis with Vulcan tire but they informed me that the size I wanted (225/50/R15) is not available and Falken is no longer planning on making that size. So WTF? The tires I have now are BFG G-Force Sports. They're good but they overheat really quickly after a few laps. - Mike - 11-21-2006 nothing is as good as the azenis... tires that come in that size that don't suck: yoko es100 - more of a street tire, will likely overheat hankook z212 - was supposed to be a close competitor to azenis, but wasn't as good as expected when it came out kumho mx - had em on the s2000, but didn't feel the grip was on par with how quickly they wore grassroots did a comparo a while back.. let me try to find it. maybe consider a treaded r-comp? ao32r or something along those lines? or maybe make the jump to used r-comps? - Mike - 11-21-2006 byah! http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/im ... retest.pdf - Andy - 11-21-2006 Honestly, as much as I would like some R-Comps, it seems a little early in the progression for me. I have at least a few more years of street tires before I will able to maximize r-comps. Then again, I've seen guys in group 2 on r-comps. So what's the deal? How do you know you're ready for R-comps? - .RJ - 11-21-2006 RA1's are an R-tire but still pretty forgiving, that would be a good choice. Buy a set and have them shaved to 4-5/32". Both Radial tire and http://philstireservice.com/ have good prices on toyo. - Evan - 11-22-2006 r-tires for hpde is pissing money away. any of the tires mikey mentioned are fine - Mike - 11-22-2006 Evan Wrote:r-tires for hpde is pissing money away. used ones are cheaper per event. - Andy - 11-22-2006 I think I'm going to look for some nice street tires. It kind of sucks cause it seems like some of the higher performance ones cost more than RA-1's - white_2kgt - 11-22-2006 Andy Wrote:I think I'm going to look for some nice street tires. It kind of sucks cause it seems like some of the higher performance ones cost more than RA-1's RA1's for the win, you can run the on the street as well if you want. - Andy - 11-22-2006 white_2kgt Wrote:Andy Wrote:I think I'm going to look for some nice street tires. It kind of sucks cause it seems like some of the higher performance ones cost more than RA-1's I finally got a hitch for the MR2 so these tires will be trailered to the track so I'm more concerned about not f'ing up my learning curve by jumping to R-comps. Stuff to think about I guess. - Mike - 11-22-2006 you've done enough events that you won't affect your learning. - white_2kgt - 11-22-2006 Andy Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:Andy Wrote:I think I'm going to look for some nice street tires. It kind of sucks cause it seems like some of the higher performance ones cost more than RA-1's RA1's are still street tireish, they go away slower than a hoosier and talk more so you'll be fine. - Ginger - 11-22-2006 Chad, sometimes I listen to you talk and could imagine you driving a Legends car...
- Feersty - 11-22-2006 Andrew, would Falken Ziex Ze 512 fit the bill? On the cheap here: http://edgeracing.com/tires/2255015/ - Andy - 11-22-2006 Feersty Wrote:Andrew, would Falken Ziex Ze 512 fit the bill? Sorry Feersty. Those are great for the street but not really a track tire. Thanks though. - Evan - 11-23-2006 Mike Wrote:not when mounting costs are factored, and considering reliable sources for used tires are not consistent, and you would need rain tires tooEvan Wrote:r-tires for hpde is pissing money away. - .RJ - 11-23-2006 Evan Wrote:not when mounting costs are factored, and considering reliable sources for used tires are not consistent I did it for 2 years and it worked out pretty good.... just need to find some place to mount your tires for $10-12/each. Not a huge cost savings over street tires, but running on R-tires is more fun It also helped that I was always using 205/50/15's, which are somewhat easy to get.http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT - Mike - 11-23-2006 Evan Wrote:Mike Wrote:not when mounting costs are factored, and considering reliable sources for used tires are not consistent, and you would need rain tires tooEvan Wrote:r-tires for hpde is pissing money away. finding 205-50-15s in decent condition is very much consistent. - Evan - 11-24-2006 considering you havent actually been on track enough to burn up a single set of any condition tires.... - Mike - 11-24-2006 good one! you're a winner! |
