2007 Bikes w/pics - G.Irish - 11-10-2006 So we have a couple of all new sportbikes for 07 Yamaha pretty much didn't want to mess up the styling of the R1 so they didn't change it much, but in doing so I think the new bike looks worse than the old one. Supposedly with a variable volume induction system it will have a vastly improved powerband and naturally it's a bit lighter but I was kind of hoping to be blown away by the new R1. Guess we'll see in 2007 superbike racing. ![]() ![]() The new GSX-R 1000 got heavier and uglier, but takes a step forward with more power and 3 rider selectable fuel mappings so that they can dial back the power in less than ideal traction situations. Who knows why they put two of those ugly pipes on the Gixxer 1k instead of one. The old GSX-R project leader moved to the Moto GP team last year and his absence is already being felt ![]() ![]() ![]() Ducati has been tired of geting spanked by Japanese supersports that cost a lot less for awhile now so for their all-new bike they upped the displacement and dropped some weight in the hope of being more competitive in the stock for stock performance battle. The new 1098 also takes a different direction in styling due to significant displeasure with its vertically illuminated predecessor, the 999. I think it looks better but I also think it looks a lot like a mix of Triumph 675 and Honda RR in the front. Really, I think the whole bike looks a lot more Japanese than Italian but whatever, at least it looks better. And it's going to be cheaper and have longer service intervals. Looks like for once and Italian automotive company is taking heed of its critics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the Honda CBR600 and the second generation og the 600RR. Supposedly Honda was able to shave 20 lbs off the weight of the bike while gaining 3 hp and implementing a flapper valve in the exhaust to improve midrange torque. It also gets the Honda Electric Steering Damper like it's big brother, the 1000RR. I have a hard time believing they could save 20 lbs but if they did it the bike will be the class of the bunch. Styling wise I think the new RR is...eh. It comes in white now which is cool but overall it's got too much R6 in it. It's grown on me though. ![]() ![]() The Kawasaki ZX-6R is also all new for 2007. Same deal with most of the Japanese bikes, smaller, lighter, slipper clutch, updated styling. Hard to say where it'll fit in performance wise but all of the 600's are pretty close in performance anyway. ![]() ![]() Of all the new bikes I think the 1098 looks the best and will probably be a big boost for Ducati. I think the 07 600RR will do very well in racing, especially since the 06 RR was still able to win a few championships in its final year. I don't really have any thoughts about the R1 and the Gixxer, but I'm sure some comparos will be out soon. - Feersty - 11-10-2006 Why such drastic changes with the supersports? I still would prefer a 2003 Team Green ZX6R. The new Kawa looks horrible. - G.Irish - 11-10-2006 Feersty Wrote:Why such drastic changes with the supersports? I think I'll be happy with my SV for another year and a half. Yosh exhaust - ![]() TMR exhaust - ![]() as for it being uglier, meh, I'd take it over any of the others. And I swear one of these days I'll figure out why people think Ducati's look good. - G.Irish - 11-11-2006 I think the 1098 is the best looking of the bunch, but only because they stole a bunch of Japanese styling cues. It doesn't look very original to me at all. For the most part I agree that people tend to sweat Ducatis more than they should because of the Italibling factor but it's still a good looking bike. I wouldn't buy one but maybe I'd get a Hypermotard if I was looking for a big street supermoto. As it is tho I'd rather get a 450. - G.Irish - 11-16-2006 Mo' bikes! From the Milan Motorcycle Show: Ducati Hypermotard 1100 and 1100 S Apparently Ducati is going to do the same thing with this bike that they do with most of their models which is to offer a base, then a tarted up S with higher spec suspension and bling bits (like titanium sliders). No complaints here. ![]() KTM 690SM Aiming to take the sole honor of Goofiest Pipes on the Road KTM gives you, the 690SM. Really, other than the dorky dual pipes (why the hell do you need dual pipes on a single) this is a really tempting machine. Light, includes slipper clutch, street legal...what's not to like? ![]() ![]() KTM 950SM R The badest supermoto on the road just got more...badasser. Not sure what the differences are. ![]() KTM Superduke R Looks hot, goes faster, probably not for infidel Americans.
- .RJ - 11-16-2006 The 1098 'tricolore'.... so sexy. ![]() News from MV and Aprilia: MV moving up in displacment . . . Quote:MV Agusta showed their 2007 model line to the press today at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy. The 2007 range is headlined by a limited-production 1078cc evolution of the F41000R, known as the F4CC (for Claudio Castiglioni, MV Agusta's Managing Director). The F4CC will be built in a limited run of just 100 bikes, each selling for around 100,000 euros. MV is claiming that when fitted with the included titanium racing exhaust (the bike will arrive fitted with a more restrictive exhaust for noise and emissions legality), the F4CC will produce a genuine 200hp at the crank. We have included MV's press information regarding the F4CC below. ![]() ![]() The other models . . . ![]() ![]() More Aprilia nakeds and motor . . . 2007 Aprilia NA 850 Mana ![]() 2007 Aprilia SL 750 Shiver ![]() THE APRILIA V4 RACE MACHINE ENGINE Quote:AN AMBITIOUS AND TECHNICALLY ADVANCED PROJECT, APRILIA'S FIRST EVER FOUR CYLINDER, IS READY TO BECOME THE NEW REFERENCE POINT FOR SUPERBIKE ENGINES WITH MORE THEN 210 CV IN SUPERBIKE CONFIGURATION . THE FUTURE IS ALREADY HERE IN THE FORM OF A NARROW V FOUR PACKED WITH PACE-SETTING TECHNOLOGY. V-twin motox - Quote:As for the variation of an existing model, it's one we've been expecting for a while - an MX version of Aprilia's 450cc V-Twin (currently found in the SXV supermoto and RXV enduro). The MXV 450 uses the same SOHC, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 77 degree V-Twin found in its Enduro and Supermoto siblings, with a few minor changes mainly directed towards further reducing weight. The electric start mechanism has been removed (the bike is now kick-start only), and the radiator is now a single unit rather than two seperate tanks connected by hoses. The tubular steel trellis frame with pressed aluminum side plates is similar to the RXV/SXV, but optimized for MX, as is the variable section aluminum swingarm. That swingarm actuates a re-valved shock via a rising-rate linkage, while up front are the familiar 50mm USD Marzocchi forks. With the power available from the high-revving V-Twin motor, this should be a potent MX weapon in the hands of a skilled rider. (Unfortunately, Aprilia didn't provide us with photos of the MXV 450) - G.Irish - 11-16-2006 That Aprilia Shiver looks a lot like the MV Brutale to me. I think the Brutale looks better though. The 1098 Tricolore looks better in some ways but looks kinda tacky in another way. I think the MV F4CC is kind of funny. Hmm, I could get the Moto GP replica Desmosedici RR for $60k or... - Sijray21 - 11-16-2006 that 1098 is f-ing sexy, but it does lack orginality (although, i'm not sure what would be a better solution for beauty and function). i wonder what my RR will pull in the Spring used...hhmmm.... - .RJ - 11-16-2006 We're all really fucked up. We think a $15k ducati is a reasonable purchase. *sigh* - .RJ - 02-06-2007
- Mike - 02-07-2007 i don't think the 848 is available, and unless your new job is money in the bank, you didn't buy a 1098. sooooo... what's with the pic? - .RJ - 02-07-2007 Mike Wrote:i don't think the 848 is available Yet. Thats the point
