Anybody have an OBD1 code reader in NoVA? (EOM) - Beej - 10-14-2006 Self explanatory. - Ginger - 10-14-2006 Can't you jump the diagnostic port and count the CEL flashes? That's what I've done on all my OBD1 cars. - Beej - 10-14-2006 The hell if I know - OBD1 is greek to me. I just looked at like the first 5 google results and nothing obvious came up, so you must be wrong. - Ginger - 10-14-2006 <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.unofficialbmw.com/repair_faqs/motronic.html">http://www.unofficialbmw.com/repair_faqs/motronic.html</a><!-- m --> ^ Just figured some other folks might get use out of it, too. - karmapolice - 10-16-2006 Doesnt Autozone or a similar store have one of these? - Beej - 10-16-2006 karmapolice Wrote:Doesnt Autozone or a similar store have one of these?I dunno, do they? I was trying to avoid buying something that I'm probably only going to use once. Peake Research seems to make a nice one for $140 - these things seem manufacturer specific too...I dunno much about all this. - CaptainHenreh - 10-16-2006 OBD I doesn't have it's own "code reader" that you'll be able to find, except for maybe GM/FoMoCo products. OBD II is where all that shit got standardized. Your best bet is to search the intertubes for the key/pedal/fuse sequence you need to make the CEL flash the code at you, then compare the code to what it's in a table. If you're lucky, this will be in a haynes manual. If you ain't, you should still be able to find it on the internet. Some ECU's (nissan and honda at least) have a light on the ECU itself that flashes codes. My 240SX did that. What kind of car are we talking about? - Maengelito - 10-16-2006 CaptainHenreh Wrote:What kind of car are we talking about? maybe the car he's picking up this weekend? just spill the beans bj - ViPER1313 - 10-16-2006 Here is the tool you are looking for. - Beej - 10-16-2006 Yeah I didn't know the magical way that would take me 10 times to perfect to make the code flash on the light, so I couldn't try it...and now the car is like 3 hours away. It ran fine so I'm not stressing about anything, I just wonder what it was. I thought OBD1 was way more standardized than it apparently is. No beans yet! - Beej - 11-30-2006 I bought a Peake R5/FCX-II in case anyone needs to read or clear codes or anything. Should be good for 1987-2000 BMW's. - WRXtranceformed - 11-30-2006 You can usually get codes pulled for free at AAP or other car stores. Dunno if they can do OBD1, but I know they can do OBD2...I've gotten them read before. - ScottyB - 11-30-2006 WRXtranceformed Wrote:You can usually get codes pulled for free at AAP or other car stores.
