Free ride to and AT Summit Point Raceway this weekend - PDenbigh - 10-11-2006

Campus folks,

Ever wanted to ride along at 135mph and not worry about cops?

This weekend is the last track event of the season at Summit Point, WV, about 1hr 20 minutes from here, or 20 minutes North of Winchester, VA. I'd like to invite as many of you as possible to join us.

Several of us are going to be there - see this thread for details and the various smak talk between drivers.

It's an incredibly cool, relaxed (unless something brakes and we have to fix it ASAP) environment and there is not a better way to get a taste for the track.

If any of you would like a FREE ride to the event from Harrisonburg, I am leaving here as close to 5:00pm on Friday as I can. I will wait aroudn if your class gets out at 5:30, etc. Just let me know if you need a ride! It's a free trip, no need to chip in on gas as I am going that way anyhow. I can seat 4 additional folks comfortably, or 5 additional if someone will ride in the middle up front (with a seat belt of course!). I'll be towing my racecar too, so it will be a fun trip.

Then, on Saturday/Sunday I know that at least I and Brian Maeng are giving full throtlle rides on track. He has a nice Miata and is a good driver, I have my Turbocharged XR4Ti that holds its own as well.

We would love to see you up there, if only for a day!

Peter

I'd be down, if I didnt have hot passes to the night race in charlotte saturday

- Goodspeed - 10-11-2006

Pete, I'm just curious, are you spending the night somewhere up there? I noticed you said you're leaving on Friday evening. I'd definately be interested in a XR4 ride if one is available!

- PDenbigh - 10-11-2006

Yeah, I am staying with my girlfriend's family that lives in Winchester. I'd open it up to everyone but she'd kill me!

If you need a spot to stay, post on the main event thread and see if you can crash on the floor somewhere, split a hotel room.

I'll put ya on the list for a ride!

Peter

ignore my tendency to spin spin spin... and just everyone knows, pete's b00sted merkur can go 135 on the straights. my nearly stock miata can probably hit 115 on the front straight. but top speed isnt whats fun about the track. its the parts where you turn the wheel and are sliding through turns. oh yeah and the general camraderie of all the folks at the track wether its at the party saturday night with free food and free beer or just chillin in the paddock.

and i'm not sure who's claiming floor space in my room, but as long as i get my own bed, i dont care who else is in the room. goodspeed, i'm sure someone will have space for you.

last event with NASA this season!!! you guys have to check out the track, and its the closest one to JMU. there is always space in one of the hotel rooms and we have a blast.

hope to see more of you there! (just find me in the faded grey E30)

I will see you all on Sunday. I will be with the family, maybe we'll do the lunch session in the minivan.

I plan to start road racing next year and want to check things out.

Pete, I think it was your g/f that brought it up to me while we were studying for a finance class.

- PDenbigh - 10-13-2006

Steve,

I do believe it was!

See you on Sunday,

Peter

Looks like I'll be heading up there Saturday. Are helmets available there for people that want Ride-alongs, or can anybody bring an extra helmet that I could borrow? Also, what is the best way to get there? I can't stand googlemap so any quick directions would be great. I've been there before but don't really remember. Thanks. See you guys on Sat. Goodspeed, do you have my number? Im not sure what time I will be going because I haven't checked the track schedule yet but I will probably be heading up there fairly early. You still in for going, and anybody else that may want to go for the day?
