WTF! My ebay HIJACKED!!! - Jeff - 09-15-2006

So I was putting rear brake shoes on the van at the Garage tonight and I get a phone call from Nebraska. It was paypal...

"Is this Mr. Jeff Morrison?"

yes

"This is ???? from paypal."

ok...

"Are you aware of 16 items posted for sale under your ebay account 'turboomni08' in the past 24 hours?"

no...

"So you have no knowledge of the 5 E-machines power supplies, assorted video games, and power packs for sale under your account?"

oh, this is not good is it?

"Well sir, it appears to us that your e-bay account has been stolen and is being used by a third party in a scam on other members of the community. I will take care of all the issues on the paypal end, and I will contact e-bay, but I suggest you do the same and change all your passwords as soon as possible."

WTF!!!??? So I went to ebay, and sure enough I had 13 things for sale and 3 sold. I recieved no e-mails about the posting, no "your item is sold" messages...nothing. These guys know their shit. E-bay was able to clear all the items, change my password, e-mail all the buyers and refer them to paypal for their claims. So, keep an eye on your e-bay accounts guys, I never even knew there was a problem with e-bay hijacking.

Your computer most likely has a virus on it - where do you access your ebay account from? Public computers at school?

have you checked your profile to see where the email's are going? it might still be there.

that sucks dude, identity theft is never fun Sad

Unrelated but, I ordered 5 textbooks on ebay's half.com this semeseter and received only 1. All the other 4 sellers have suddenly unregistered and obviously I got nothing for my money. Puts me $220 in the hole and then I had to pay full price at the bookstore.

not very happy with ebay lately.

I had my paypal account jacked a while back. It really sucked, guys tried $2400, $1600, $1000, $800, and $400 charges off of it. Thankfully I have my secondary checking only linked to my paypal account so there wasn't enough money to cover any of those charges. BB&T however was bastards and actually authorized both the $800 and the $400 charges. Took me a while to get it all sorted out, but in the end I got all my money back.

I got my visa check card/bank account jacked last year. I was completely oblivious to it, and my bank took care of it all for me before I ever knew what was going on. They basically ended up eating the 800$ or so because of fraud protection on the accounts. the weird part is, I had my card, in my wallet, but the bank could tell that there was actually a card being swiped for the transactions.

just curious, did they show as reputable sellers or no-feedback?

Mixed bag. Went from power sellers with thousands of positive feedback to some in the 30s to brand new sellers. Same results with all of them, except the power seller just gave me a refund and didn't even mention why. The others have disappeared
