NFL season - Maengelito - 09-15-2006

I'm surprised that there hasnt been any threads about this yet aside from the skins. thoughts? as much as i hate to admit it, i think the giants look really good this year. arizona could be a real sleeper with a decent qb who did well last time he had two awesome receivers and then throw in the edge and it could get interesting. i think palmer and cinci is over rated as are the colts. etc. my fantasy team is gonna kick ass this year too.

- JustinG - 09-15-2006

since the colts lost thier kicker from last year i actually think they have a chance, i think the Panthers are looking pretty good this year to. And as much as i hate to say it, if the cowboys got their act together they may be surprising. Im just keeping my eye on reggie bush to see if he will be as dominate in the NFL as he was in college.

- CaptainHenreh - 09-15-2006

My fantasy team lost it's first game because the bucs SUCK AGAIN.

I only lost by 10 pts to a team that consisted of mostly EAGLES. Goddamnit!

Here's what our (mine and julie's) lineup looks like this week:
Eli Manning
Edgerrin James
Fred Taylor
Laveranues Coles
Santana Moss
Chris Cooley
John Kasey the lonely kicker
and Falcons for DST, since they played pretty good last week. Panthers are our reserve DST, but they didn't do crap last week.

And as far as rooting for a team, I'm going for the Bengals this year. I mean, they deserve it.

- Maengelito - 09-15-2006

I am in fantasy for the first time this year. Fun stuff. I hope the Dolphins get it together against the Bills on Sunday.

- Hunter - 09-15-2006

Uh oh... NFL talk.

I cant even begin to talk about fantasy football because i seem to have somehow gotten involved in 4 seperate leauges, hopefully i can win one of them. Anyway, watch out for the ravens, now that they have a decent quarterback for the first time EVER, they could be a damn good team.

- Maengelito - 09-18-2006

wow, the redskins are bad. their offense is no where to be found...

brunell needs to be replaced or benched...he buckle's under pressure and he can't make the throws when he has time. what good are santana moss and randel el when you can't get the ball to them.

- white_2kgt - 09-18-2006

Skis are going to suck it up this year, Cowboys RAN over them last night, it was great!

- Hunter - 09-18-2006

So that was a complete disaster... Although everyone has said that it will be a while till Al Saunders' offense won't look like crap because it's so complicated. Regardless, it still hurts too watch and I really wonder if its worth it to have burnell learning an incredibly complex offense just so he can retire soon and turn in over to someone else.

- Evan - 09-18-2006

1st down: run for 2 yards
2nd down: run for 2 yards.
3rd down and 6: incomplete pass or sack

repeat for 60 minutes.

skins sucked it up bad, and it looked a lot like bad playcalling and coaching to me.

Bledsoe buckled under pressure last week. So what did we do? We didnt blitz. Cowboys showed some holes in the secondary last week. So what did we do? We dinked and dunked it for 3 or 4 yards (when we actually decided to throw it)

Brunell hung onto the ball waaay too long. Most of the sacks were from him hanging onto the ball, and I find it hard to believe with 3 top WRs on the field that no one could get open.

- Apoc - 09-18-2006

What was the deal with the run/run/pass anyway? That was the rutt (SP?) that the Cowboys were in back before Parcells joined up. It was obvious they weren't getting anywhere with it so why not switch it up?

- Hunter - 09-18-2006

Well it works... when portis is playing and picking 4, 5, or 6 yards a carry, the offense really really misses him. Why can't brunell throw more that one deep ball a game? There are 3 legitimate deep threats on the field at anytime, I say start chuckin it deep cause nothing else is working.

- Apoc - 09-18-2006

Well it was obvious to even Madden that Portis wasn't in the game so why not change the game plan?

- Mike - 09-18-2006

that was fucking miserable. the play calling was awful, the defense was awful, brunell was awful...

- Evan - 09-18-2006

not when you cant convert 3rd down. And we werent any better last week when portis was in the game.

after 2 quarters of 3rd and long you would have thought that they would have changed things up....

thats why the skins brought in Al Saunders. Offensive coach of the old Rams and the recent Chiefs. Didnt change anything.
Hell, Gibbs threw it deep a ton last year. Moss had the most plays over 40 yards in the whole league, and that was without the help of other recievers like he has now.
I have no idea whats up with the skins......

- Hunter - 09-18-2006

In the playoffs last year and so far this season Burnell looks like he's gone back to 2004 burnell, no where close to the 2005 burnell where he actually threw the ball down field. Hell, there were a ton of 3rd downs where people were open and he just plane couldnt get the ball to them. If this keeps up I bet we see Cambell by week 5. (I only say if will take that long because gibbs never likes to remove the starting QB)

- Apoc - 09-18-2006

It's gotta be the offensive line. They didn't protect Brunell that well with even a 4 man rush and they weren't opening the holes the backs need to get more than 2 yards per carry. I think Portis coulda made something more with what the line was giving them but I doubt it would have gotten much better than 3rd and short.

The defensive backs did a good job of shutting down the post and come back routes but 117 yards in penalties is going to more than hose that. Neither team was particularly impressive and a lot of the points were because of defensive penalities.

well, al saunders had the benefit of having dick vermeil with the rams and then the chiefs. as soon as he left the rams, their offense started to fall apart over the span of 1-2 years. in those years, vermeil built up the cheifs and got their offense kick started. then he left and its been falling apart this year. however, saunders doesnt have vermeil in washington, so nothing's gonna be built up. its just gonna get worse and worse.
