New member, here is my car, with tech specs - Steve85 - 09-05-2006 The car is a 1985 Corvette with nearly every stock part replaced/upgraded. The engine is based on a 1972 400 block taken out .040 with a 3.75 crank for 408cid. Compression is around 11.25:1, AFR 210 heads, MiniRam intake and Accel DFI to run things. Cam is solid roller 254/260 with .600 at the valve (less lash, my bad in not accounting for it  ). Trans is Richmond 6 spd, a direct replacement for the original 4+3 and rear gears are 3.07 The car has the Z51 package which included stiffer springs, more agressive shocks and a quick ratio steering rack. It has been lowered ~1" in front and 1.5" rear. I added C5 Z06 front brakes and new master cylinder bias spring to balance things out. Best run before new cam with old hyd roller cam and original ECM was 11.8x at 118. Blew the rear shortly after that and have not been to the track with the new upgrades. It dynoed 381rwhp at Carlisle a couple weeks ago. The injectors hit 100% at 5K, A/FR hit 14 shortly thereafter and the numbers dropped off immediately. The 24# injectors are comming out and 36's are going in. I am in the process of preparing for road course/autoX training by adding a second harness for the instructor, put in a HD oil cooler, getting a road racing oil pan, and need to solve a fuel sloshing problem which leaves my injectors dry on hard corners and launches. My time is minimal with school and kids but I look forward to taking part in whatever I can here. ![]() Here is pic of my former ride which now belongs to my stepdaughter.. It is 90 325ix with a Turner chip and H&R springs...
- Mike - 09-05-2006 awesome cars welcome.
- BLINGMW - 09-05-2006 that'll be a beast on track! Coming to autocross in Verona this weekend? - Dave - 09-05-2006 sweet! I was reading through your specs and thinking "man this thing would eat stuff alive on track" and then was pleasantly surprised to find you're already taking steps toward that. Welcome to the club. The car is beautiful and sounds retarded fast. Can't wait to meet you in person, you should make it a family trip and come up to Summit Pt. in October (see events section). How did you find out about the club? Welcome! - Ginger - 09-05-2006 +1 for heading up to Summit, last event of the year promises to be a good time! I'd look forward to meeting you there. Welcome to the club, your car sounds like a huge amount of fun! I can only imagine it's one hell of a permenant exercise in restraint. It's always nice to see new faces. - Steve85 - 09-05-2006 BLINGMW Wrote:that'll be a beast on track! Coming to autocross in Verona this weekend? No, big golf tournamant hosted by my dad this weekend at Bryce Resort, 3 days 72 holes. Definitely looking into the Oct Summit event... Thanks for the welcoming. I heard about the club from Drew Hayes. It does require restraint on the street, most of the time I'm capable other times, not so much  . And I need to bring that restraint to the track or it will get ugly realllll quick. Luckily I have humbled over the years and being owned by a good driver in a slower car will be OK with me (for at least two laps anyway :wink
- Goodspeed - 09-05-2006 Badass car, welcome to the club. I've always liked the C4 body style when done right like yours - PDenbigh - 09-05-2006 Nice car man! Welcome to the club! - ScottyB - 09-05-2006 that is one beastly car. glad you decided to drop by the forums, hope to see you at a few events! - HAULN-SS - 09-05-2006 W00t. I'm glad to see some real muscle getting into this club. Car looks good, i was thinking when I first glanced at your post that it was going to be bone stock, which would've blown. Is that a smallblock 400 or big block? I have been looking for a bigblock 400, sort of, debating on what's going into my 71. - Steve85 - 09-05-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:W00t. Is that a smallblock 400 or big block? I have been looking for a bigblock 400, sort of, debating on what's going into my 71. Small block 400. What kind of power level are you looking for? I know of quite a few proven combinations from my friends over at corvetteforum.com. I would be happy to provide some input/advice. You can do very well with the lighter and cheaper small blocks. Check out airflowresearch.com, they have updated the site introducing the new eliminator series heads hock: .Thanks again for the kind words! I certainly hope to meet you guys here soon. Going to check out the events... - HAULN-SS - 09-05-2006 I'm probably going to be shooting for at least 500. I am debating three options at the moment: Period correct 400 big block (the car is a 71 402 Monte Carlo - minus the 402 at the moment), period correct 454, or just springing for a crate 572. They will probably all cost about the same in the long run, by the time I get them the way I want them, but the 572 will have a warranty, and a gauranteed output. I have a smallblock 350 in my 86 Monte Carlo, and it's a moderate engine, but you cant beat a big block's torque. That'll come in handy for a 4,000lb car. Plus it's already got the factory larger sway bar and such for a big block since it had one originally. - Steve85 - 09-05-2006 Well if it came with a BB, then it definitely should get a BB. Can I interest you in a 555? I can get you the specs on this motor. That is a full steel bodied 67 carrying the front wheels past the 60' mark. BB torque in action. It was built by a guy who has a knack for good and economic combos. He doesn't have a shop but if you copy the setup, the results will follow. Of course, if you can spring for the crate 572 there is no arguing against it. It has a combination of power, reliability and gaurantee you won't get anywhere else. http://media.putfile.com/Launches-35 - WRXtranceformed - 09-05-2006 Nice ride man! If you're on the corvette forums, you may know my boss. He's from the northern VA area and has a red C4 convertible with a custom built race motor. He forever had a bunch of problems with it, but I think he's finally got it dialed in. It's a total monster, I had the chance to drive it briefly, and even without really getting on it the car is a handful. Ass-end wanted to kick out like no other! I think he dyno'd around 484ish rwhp, all motor. From what I remember him saying though, he had the motor built for a huge shot of nitrous... he just hasn't had the desire to install a system yet. - Steve85 - 09-05-2006 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Nice ride man! Thanks. Yes, you must be referring to Dave, "jerkyboy" on the forum. That 434 is one of 3 built by the same guy that did the above motor in that Chevelle. When Dave ran his dyno I think his filter to TB duct was collapsing. Those motors are scary fast but with the new Z06, it's just keeping up at this point. (That is both sad and impressive) I don't think his wife will allow the nitrous at this point! He also runs Accel's DFI and we have exchanged ideas, he recently helped me change the rpm scale in the VE tables. - WRXtranceformed - 09-06-2006 Steve85 Wrote:Yup, that's Dave =DWRXtranceformed Wrote:Nice ride man! He's a great guy and has an awesome sleeper. That car literally sounds like a war started when you mash the gas... I love it  - HAULN-SS - 09-06-2006 that was a pretty sick launch in that video. You're saying the guy already has a shortblock sitting around for sale? If so, may be interested. Unless I could get a shortblock and crank for somethign that big, already assembled/balanced - and I wasnt going to get the 572, i'd probably just bore/hone a 454. Just as a side note, this guy on the montecarloss.com forums, John Bzdel, super nice guy, dropped 14 grand or so into putting a cammed LS7 into his monte, got 11's in full street dress and tires. I think he already has, or is getting ready to be in a couple magazines. Some editors picked his car up randomly searching the net and emailed him. - Steve85 - 09-06-2006 He does not a short block ready to go. What I would do is get the specs and then you could duplicate it. You minimize the risk by going with a proven combo. And as I mentioned before, he does not use trick parts, just very well matched and usually budget friendly. That sounds like a killer Monte! There are three guys currently putting LS motors (not ls7's) in their C4's on corvetteforum. That LS series is near impossible to beat. It's also a prime example of the power being "in the heads". I'll try to get you the specs on that motor next week. It's always good to have some options and see what others are doing to get some ideas of your own. - HAULN-SS - 09-07-2006 yeah. The LS motors are basically awesome. I have a vortec motor in my 86, but i kinda wish I had done an LS swap instead. Kind of had to be on a little bit of a budget when I built that one though - Jeff - 09-07-2006 Very cool car. Welcome! We are seeing a huge influx of Chevy V8s here lately...I'm not sure I am comfortable with that... |
