Wasn't sure it was true when I checked it at first. But a quick trip to CNN confirmed it.

Sad to hear. Especially since he has a wife and child. Sad

It truely is a damn shame.

- HAULN-SS - 09-04-2006

Heh, as much as people have joked about how this guy might die, I never thought it would actually happen. At least he went out doing what he did.

- BLINGMW - 09-04-2006

3 cheers for the biggest pair of balls in history! 8) He makes motorsport look like a tea party. Hopefully snakes and crocs go to heaven so he has something to do when god gets tired of wrestling.

Out of all the ways to die. A stingray????

He should have at least gone out with a croc.

ZX3 or SVT?

- karmapolice - 09-04-2006

It's an SVT, the reason I put down ZX3 is it's a 3 door hatch, I know theres a 4 door SVT which goes by SVT ZX5 (5 door).

I guess I'll start calling it a SVT Hatch? Confusedhock:

man i'm super bummed about this. Steve-O was like my hero, even though he was pretty insane and kind of reckless, you knew you were watching something not-PC and non-scripted, done by a guy who pretty much knew his shit and made it great for the viewers. plus he died in his prime, not a young flash in the pan or an old timer who was too slow. now we have Jeff Corwin left, whoop de freakin do.

i also was surprised a stingray finished him off. i was expecting him to be trampled by a bull elephant, killed by a 15 foot cobra or eaten by a massive nile croc....but then again at least he didn't die in a freak plane crash or something random.

i feel bad for his wife and kids. super bummed here Cry

- G.Irish - 09-04-2006

Yeah I feel really bad too. There's never been a world-reknowned wildlife expert who's shown his level of passion and enthusiasm for the animals and furthered the cause of conservation as much. I think he's done a lot to help people be more appreciative and less afraid of stuff like snakes and crocodilians.

I think I was most impressed by how gentle and in tune he was with the snakes that so many of the other biologists manhandle and choke (and of course get bitten by). It was a real credit to his craft that he'd never been bitten by a venomous snake, even though he handled them a tremendous amount.

It kinda pisses me off when people say stuff like, "I saw it coming" or "It was gonna happen sooner or later" like somehow they know more than he does or that he didn't know what he was doing. Its easy for the average person who takes zero risk in their life to criticize those that take great risks for a passion they have or a cause that they believe in. That's what makes great people great, and I admire him for it.

Sucks for his kids, but I hope to see them follow in his footsteps one day.

- Goodspeed - 09-05-2006

Yeah, I think I saw him speak in person two years ago, I've watched a couple of his shows and I never got the impression that he completley respected the animals he dealt with...I mean...he knew the danger and what kind of animals he was dealing with, but he really did push it a lot of times, I guess thats why hes popular. You would think that when you have a wife and two kids you'd lay off messing with lethal animals in dangerous environments. IMO he should've known when to quit

but he wasn't messing with a lethal animal. Getting killed by a sting ray is very rare from what I've heard. Painful yes, but usually not lethal. I mean the thing managed to stab him under his rib cage and into his heart, sounds alot more like bad luck than anything else. - Like Scotty said, at least he was doing what he loved...
