CRX under rated? - DierwulfBL - 05-12-2004

i was just contemplating on what to buy carwise and was searching autotrader for cars. One car that has seemed to slip everyones consideration is a CRX. What is everyones views on a CRX? Is there something that hinders the CRX on track/autoX that makes people steer clear? I'm thinkin of selling the 20v and buying a crx to track/autoX. Definitely found a 1988 crx si with a new engine/tranny with a salvage title for 700 bucks and im mighty tempted. So what's everyones take on a 2nd gen CRX?

My experience with CRXs are that theyre just really light civics with tons of aftermarket. Anywho, discuss Smile

Good cars, bulletproof engines, they are a bit twitchy though (short wheel base).

- Dave - 05-12-2004

whut he said

I like CRXs a lot. I think the only major downside is lack of rear seats. But, you use them rarely and gain cargo space, so its not a huge loss.

- G.Irish - 05-12-2004

Very light, good handling, good aftermarket, fairly cheap. Not a bad choice. People seem to like hatchcraps better but the CRX was probably one of Honda's best cars of all time, definitely in my top 10.

- KPWSerpiente - 05-12-2004

Not in my top then, but I wouldn't mind owning one. If you can get a running one for 700 I'd jump on it.

its too bad that kaan's got one, therefore ruining all crx's 8)

Great car, but I would steer clear of a salvage title (unless it was a theft and you don't intend to put much $$ in to the car).

- Evan - 05-12-2004

Crx is a great car. Kaan let me take his out for a session at summit. Aside from the horrendous 15 year old seats, the car was an absolute blast to drive.
For $700, its hard to go wrong, as long as the frame is straight enough, and is alignable. Damage or slight bends in front of the front shock towers or behind the rear shock towers shouldnt concern you much, so dont sweat that. But if the frame is rusted, or shock towers damaged (or suspension mountings otherwise misaligned) thats where it could get ugly.

Well if the shell is rusted you can always fina an HF shell... but then it gets into alot of work.

- JackoliciousLegs - 05-14-2004

I almost bought a CRX as a "daily driver" on top of my rx a couple months ago. I found one on cars.com with like 120k in good shape for 900. Keep your eyes peeled. They're reliable, cheap, quick, and fun.

The first time that I met Kaan, he tried to race me. Talk about wheel hop!

- Kaan - 05-14-2004

it was a long boring drive to VIR... and we were in ricersburg... i mean lynchburg... what do you want from me ? lol... most if not all fwd will wheel hop without the right mods... but on a road course it fairs just fine... will all 94.8 hp.

- Mike - 05-14-2004

kaan didn't we race once? or you raced me and i still won? something like that?

- Kaan - 05-15-2004

sure nuff my pile is slow  and you reved at me ricer!

- Mike - 05-15-2004

I have to rev so I don't stall when I let the clutch out dummy.

- Evan - 05-15-2004

learn to modulate the clutch fool Wink
neither my busted 1.8 or low compression 2.0 need gas peddle to get moving

Yeah but you dont have 6 puck unsprung clutch disc. Mike's clutch blows ass.

has nothing to do with the motor, its the clutch dummy. read the grm that had the e36 m3 on it. i must admit it's pretty damn sweet when i want to take off though. it has taken MANY 5k rpm dumps and damn does the car move when i do that... look out mid-14s 1/4!!

- Evan - 05-15-2004

ahhh werd.

Mike is a closet drag racer Wink

- Mike - 05-15-2004

weeeeeeeeeee!!! some dummy in a bran new 325 rolled up next to me and revved today. he was prolly 25 and thought he was the hot shit in his new $30k car. needless to say, he flew off leaving me and my shifting at 2900rpms in the dust. next time i ought to actually race the fucker and laugh in his face at the next light as i tell him my car only cost $4k (extra bonus, he has a chick in the car) Tongue i dunno, little things like that really amuse me Smile
