Need help... and i'm paying. - Kaan - 07-31-2006

The Carbs on my FZR need to be looked at. At minimum they have to be adjusted and syncted up. But the might have to get pulled and rebuilt/cleaned.

the problem is that i'm going to be house sitting for a friend of mine while he takes his family on vacation.... right up until the MM BBQ at the Chappins. I wanted to ride down to that event with the crew... but i dont have time to get the bike running. Normally i'd work on the bike and run over to the house to sleep... but i'm really dog/house sitting... so i cant leave the poor dog alone for 8 hours while i'm at work... then more in the afternoon...

hit me up if you can lend a hand please!

Kaan, where is the bike?

- Sijray21 - 07-31-2006

at our place in Oakton.

lemme know what i can do and i can help you with whatever i can.

- .RJ - 07-31-2006

Well we can pull the carbs and try to clean them out without dissasembling them but I dont know how much can be done? If we start taking them apart I'd be lost...

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

Well as of now its not even close to being ready to work on. Fairings are still on... tank still has gas in it... so thats the basic stuff... i have tomorrow night and weds to get working on it on my own... i dont know how far i'll get ... but if anyone is free... beer and pizza is on me...

- Dragon - 07-31-2006

Just let me know what help you need man, that's what roommates are for.

- .paul - 07-31-2006

i'll hang aorund and watch - but your best bet is to talk to like svbadguy or boomboom on .net

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

scratch that... i'm going to drop a fresh set of plugs in it... bring a couple of "tools" and the manual to the cook out... and we can attempt to fix it while drunk... then if its not working... i'll talk to Boomboom and see how much he'll charge me to come look at it.

that sounds like a wonderful idea Big Grin I've seen carbs before, but I bet I can rebuild one once I've had like 7......teen...beers :lol:

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

the sad thing is... I'd trust 20 drunk MMers to work on the bike before a local bike shop... whats that say for the state of the local bike shops?

- PDenbigh - 07-31-2006

I rebuilt the carbs on Alisons nighthawk 650 (all four of them, yak) and one of Seans 500's, but I don't have the tool to sync them and syncing them makes a big difference. The tool can be "made" but I don't like homemade precision tools ;-).

If all you're looking for is to get it running, rebuilldg carbs isn't that bad as long as you have a nice clean area and you are super careful.

Can you pull the carbs off and have someone take them to a shop for you or something? Of pull them off and ship them to me and I'll overhaul 'em for you?

- Sijray21 - 07-31-2006

i was pretty happy about the timing, price, and work of Fairfax Cycles, which isn't too far from our place, but i'd rather take a look at it first than give it to them first.

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

I"ll bring towels and newspapers... and we can do them on the back deck with beer for carb cleaner.

Pete i'm bringing the damn bike down there... like it or not... if we have to make a tool... we can do that too... i'm not scared Wink

Ok then, here ya go:

(Edit - this one is for 2 carbs only) <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.powerchutes.com/manometer.asp">http://www.powerchutes.com/manometer.asp</a><!-- m -->\

I think this one works for 4 carbs: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://home.westman.wave.ca/~jbe/YICS.htm">http://home.westman.wave.ca/~jbe/YICS.htm</a><!-- m -->

$100 for a professional version: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.carbtune.com/index.html">http://www.carbtune.com/index.html</a><!-- m -->

Another nice version: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://store.azmusa.com/motprocarsyn.html">http://store.azmusa.com/motprocarsyn.html</a><!-- m -->

And here's a good how-to: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/carb_synk.htm">http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/carb_synk.htm</a><!-- m -->
