I think thats the answer. The answer to what, you ask? Well I'm not quite sure..... but this is it.

The FD is the car I always wanted to have, but the thought of $5,000 hand gernede engins scared me away.... time to re-prioritize!

Dont worry I will.

I'll also have fun sitting in my racecar making engine and tire squeeling noises.

could you fit a supercharged modular ford motor in there? that's an engine i'd love to see in a 7. no, a 4 rotor actually. or a V12.

weeee!

- .RJ - 07-14-2006

Ford mod motors are way too big externally to fit in most engine bays...... now a 302 on the other hand....

- HAULN-SS - 07-14-2006

wtf is a modular motor?

- .RJ - 07-14-2006

HAULN-SS Wrote:wtf is a modular motor?

Google it.

All the newer ford car/truck sohc v6/v8/v10 engines...

- HAULN-SS - 07-14-2006

I thought you were just trying to say "crate" motor.

- Feersty - 07-14-2006

I am sure .RJ if you didn't race you would have one by now, with a LS1 or not. Just a thought.

Feersty Wrote:I am sure .RJ if you didn't race you would have one by now, with a LS1 or not. Just a thought.

You're right, I would. But after racing and now owning a motorcycle nice street cars dont really elicit any sort of desire to own one for me.

Nice street cars are expensive, heavy, and often a pain in the ass, and for a fraction of the cost I can have a bike that goes much faster and is more exciting to ride. I get my enjoyment from how the vehicle performs, not the price tag or the badge on the hood.

IMO, a nice truck + bike = best combination Smile

The next "fun" car I buy will be a '73 911. Until then, I'll take cheap, reliable 2- or 4-wheeled transport.

when it rains a bike isnt a pain in the ass?
wearing a bunch of gear isnt a pain in the ass?
loosing bigtime in any wreck isnt a pain in the ass?

and who gives a shit about going fast on the street? A bike may be fast, but using a bike's potential on the street just exaggerates why you shouldnt ride one in the first place

- CaptainHenreh - 07-14-2006

Mod fords are hard to fit into alot of engine bays because their deck height is so tall, being OHC and all.

An LS1, on the other hand, is OHV, and much more compact -- not nearly as tall.

Here's an illustration:

The one on the left is a 4.6 "cammer" motor, the right hand one is an OHV 5.0 HO. And, to get an idea of a why people shove LS1's into everything:

There's a Miata 1.8 beside an LS1. I mean, it's bigger, no question. But it's not *that* much bigger.

Also, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.vorshlag.com/ls1bmw0.php">http://www.vorshlag.com/ls1bmw0.php</a><!-- m -->

Maybe what Rex should do next?

Rain isnt really a problem, and if you plan ahead you can avoid it by driving on rainy days. The gear I dont mind at all, because if you do dump it its going to save your hide.

Evan Wrote:and who gives a shit about going fast on the street?

I dont but thats generally one of the reasons people buy expensive cars, because they go fast.

Evan Wrote:A bike may be fast, but using a bike's potential on the street just exaggerates why you shouldnt ride one in the first place

The bike's potential is so far above the potential of most riders that you're pushing your own comfort level and ability before you get anywhere close to what the bike can do.

its still a pain in the ass, much more so than hopping in a "slow" street car

Yes, this has been at the top of my dreamy track car list for a while. The hotness of an effadeeya, with 2x the mileage, 2x the torque and eleventyblllionx the reliability.

I guess traction might be a problem?
