MM on Assignment: The Cars of a King (56K no no) - Goodspeed - 06-24-2006 Well I just got back from my visit to a top secret location in the desert of the Middle East to see the car collection of a certain royal family. I thought I'd share a few pics....this is just a taste of what was stored in the building, it was an amazing collection, there were several cars denoted as being "one of 50", "one of 100" etc...some VERY rare cars. The orange C111 Mercedes is one of six ever made, the only one outside Germany. I plan on going back with some better equipment, maybe I can arrange to hop the ropes, they don't really mind 8) I'm happy, I've now seen an F40, an F50, and an Enzo in person. Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Greetings MM, from the scorching desert!
- ScottyB - 06-24-2006 whoa, those are some super unique cars. i love how they kept the dust on the rally cars too, nice touch. i'm pretty jealous, that's an amazing collection. for the record, that 959 is bangin hot. - Feersty - 06-24-2006 Is this in Bahrain? - bassmangrammy - 06-24-2006 Goodspeed is a baller. Great photos. - Goodspeed - 06-25-2006 This is in Jordan. The people here are really passionate about motorsports, there was recently a huge city wide party for the start of the WRC rally leg here, I saw rally cars in the streets it was pretty cool. Anyways the Carrera GT was a gift from the Stuttgart factory...the royal family gave many of their Porsches back to them for their museum, so in return Porsche gave them the CGT. The white Mercedes was the late Kings hill-climbing competition car, I believe he personally still holds some regional records, they had video looping of him racing and you could tell he knew how to drive. The C111 was the one car the late King Hussein really wanted, but he passed away in 1999 before he could get one..his son and current King Abdullah acquired one for the museum in his honor. Can you believe that the black Aston Martin was his college car? Now THAT is baller! - Evan - 06-25-2006 so Goodspeed, how many times did you spontaneously jizz your shorts? - BLINGMW - 06-26-2006 wow, uh.... nice trip! hock:
- bassmangrammy - 06-26-2006 And that gullwing is beautiful. - Goodspeed - 06-26-2006 Evan Wrote:so Goodspeed, how many times did you spontaneously jizz your shorts? I almost touched the F50 while trying to see the weave of the carbon fiber through the paint (you can)...I almost did then  - Ross - 06-26-2006 If you think those cars are beautiful...you should see the women of Jordan.
- Feersty - 06-27-2006 When can you take me on one of your Middle East trips? You have done more traveling than I ever hope to do. - .RJ - 06-27-2006 Feersty Wrote:When You have done more traveling than I ever hope to do. You shouldnt need someone else to motivate you to do the things that you want. - Goodspeed - 06-27-2006 I don't think i'm coming back to the middle east after this summer! Not too much to do as you can probably imagine. Though I can say that next time any MM'er makes a trip to the Nurburgring, I'll be a hop and a step away over the breaks  - G.Irish - 06-27-2006 Good thing you didn't touch that F50, could've gotten your hand chopped (I'd certainly chop off hands for less). Hmm, maybe we should organize an official MM trip to Nurburgring... - Goodspeed - 06-27-2006 G.Irish Wrote:Good thing you didn't touch that F50, could've gotten your hand chopped (I'd certainly chop off hands for less). Maybe in Saudi, but in Jordan they really don't care about...anything. For example....
- Feersty - 06-27-2006 Niiice. - Feersty - 06-27-2006 .RJ Wrote:Feersty Wrote:When You have done more traveling than I ever hope to do. There is a big difference between going to a country as exotic as Jordan as a tourist, and being there on business which is mostly likely Goodspeed's reasoning for being there i.e. his Dad's job. Going to places such as Jordan or the other as part of your job/career is something that very cool to me and it is all paid for. - .RJ - 06-27-2006 Feersty Wrote:Going to places such as Jordan or the other as part of your job/career is something that very cool to me and it is all paid for. If its that important for you to experience other cultures, then go do it. You dont need a reason

I think you missed his point. He's saying that its extra cool to get to go there on the company dollar. I can tell you right now that I never would have gone to Alaska on my own, but I'm glad I got to go for my job. - .RJ - 06-27-2006 G.Irish Wrote:I think you missed his point. He's saying that its extra cool to get to go there on the company dollar. Well, I sort of did get that, but.... My point was, that if there is something that you want to experience, then dont wait for a job, or family, or something else to do it If you want to go, then make your plans, save whatever $$ you have to and go!!! I hate to hear people say "oh man i really wish I could do that.... " and then make excuses about why they cant go - you only live once, and you're only young once, so go do it!!! |
