New Driving Sim - JackoliciousLegs - 05-02-2004

Hi everyone, I was recently able to beta test a game called GTR for betanews.com. It's the newest driving simulator (not yet) on the market. This makes all the Gran Turismo games look like an arcade game. It even bests Live for Speed in the reality department.

Visually: The game is better than GT3. Very good graphics. Then you look at the detail. You drive from a cockpit. The interior looks awesome. The surroundings look awesome.

Sound: This is hands down THE BEST SOUNDING DRIVING GAME OF ALL TIME. It sounds like you are in a race car. You hear everything from the rumble of the engine starting to the whine of the transmission. It is stunning.

Physics: Currently, the most realistic feeling driving game available. The car shudders when braking hard. It reacts to bumps in the road. You have to pit because your tires actually feel loose (this is SO incredibe). Your can run out of gas. It really is AMAZING.

If that's not enough to wet your appetite, here's an in car video for you to have fun with late at night:

Please don't spread the link to other forums. I pay for my bandwidth.

As I said before, the game is still in beta, but I'm already addicted. If anyone feels so inclined, they can come over and play it with my FF wheel Smile

looks prety hot, even if the driver of that vid didn't know the track very well. Heavy on sys requirements? I'm still very impressed with LFS, if only for the feel of the car alone. If this is better.... hook me up!

- JackoliciousLegs - 05-02-2004

My machine:
XP on a P4 2.4 w/512MB RAM, Radeon 9600. I run it at 1024x768x32.

There is a big difference in realism between this and lfs. LFS feels like a cartoon video game compared to this. GTR looks, sounds and feels real. The only thing separating this game from real life is the limitation of gfx power and the lack of an immersive simulator. Don't get me wrong, lfs is still VERY realistic... but for some reason, GTR just feels more real. Maybe its the way the FF is done. Maybe its the dirt that clouds the windshield. Maybe its the tire marks that slowly build up on the track. Maybe its the wheel hop. In reality, it's all of those things and more... This is a simulator.

You should have used the NaWzzzzzzz button on the steering wheel.

Where can we get it?

speaking of great racing sims, im glad to see your links actually look like LINKS

- Evan - 05-02-2004

Isnt this the GTR Mod for F12002?

- JackoliciousLegs - 05-02-2004

Nope, it's a game called GTR. Hasn't been released yet.

- Evan - 05-02-2004

interesting. it looks exactly like the GTR mod for F12002, and given the similarity in name I figured it was the same.

Who is the developer?

- Evan - 05-02-2004

Looked it up myself and it is infact the same dev team that developed GTR for F12002, so without a doubt it is along the same lineage. Ill have to knock the dust off my momo wheel when it comes out.
Its great to see real sims picking up popularity. Smile

All the Gran Turismo games are arcade games Tongue.

If this game is as good as you say it is it may finally prompt me to upgrade to a game worthy computer. OTOH I could just spend that money on a Data Aq system for the car...

- Mike - 05-06-2004

Wow. Just wow. The demo freaking comes with a Motec telemetry analyzer... Wow.

- BLINGMW - 05-06-2004

dling it now.

Funny that 'motec' is new to a driving sim though. Seems kind of natural that after using a computer to model data from a motec, to make a game that feels like a motec says it feels... that the computer could MAYBE manage to simulate a motec.
